  • Thanks OP - I got some skimmed (for me) and semi (for DH and DS)

Personally now I'm used to it I only like skimmed....semi in tea tastes really horrible, far too milky (sounds stupid I know)!
I will however have a sneaky coffee with semi now and then, I consider it a 'treat' - oh the life of a slimmer!
If my words are missing letters then please excuse me....my keyboard is a tad dodgy!!
  • Just a little info' on milk in general (but mainly for the vegetarians out there). To keep a cow "in milk" it has to have a calf every 2/3 years. Unfortunately the male calves are pretty worthless (as they are not much good for meat), so it's straight off to the slaughter house  . So vegetarians, if you don't want to be responsible for the assisted mass murder of baby cows, then it's time to turn vegan :A

From experience EVERY vegan that I have known or worked with, about 10 people, looked far from healthy - I would even go as far as to say they looked ill or even corpse like and very pasty.

I have tried eating their food and it was all very bland. Maybe Heather Mills / PETA should avoid boards with anything about their banned food and move on to the deals about dull pulses and grains.

I agree with you! I now only drink skimmed but far prefer cravendale as normal skimmed milk is not creamy enough, cravendale (or Tesco Pure) are creamy enough when I pick skimmed but too creamy (either normal or cravendale) if I go for semi skimmed. Makes calorie counting that bit easier anyway!

    Thanks OP,

I've never liked the taste of milk, just used to put a bit in coffee.

However, Cravendale doesn't have the "milky taste/odour" that puts me off. I can even enjoy cereals now and buy nothing else :)

Obviously I'm interested in cheap Cravendale and not cheap milk.

This thread is about CHEAP MILK

No, it isnt about CHEAP MILK. Again, its about CRAVENDALE @ TESCO. Not, just cheap milk like you say!

now now children, stop fighting, no use crying over spilt milk.:rotfl:
  • My Tesco didn't even have the price on the self for Cravendale today, so good job I check this site every day for deals.

Maybe Tesco are trying to keep their deals secret!
  • Bah, i bought some from the garage as we'd ran out of milk for the evening. However we get organic milk delivered from the local farmers ( oh how lovely to live so close to the country :D )
Plan to save all child benefit from Jan 26th - November 30th

Unfortunately the reason Cravendale lasts longer and doesn't sour so quickly is simply because it is packed with antibiotics (from the cow's bloodstream) and preserving agents to make it so. It's ironic that this characteristic makes you think it's better, when in real terms, milk that sours quicker is far more likely to be purer and ultimately better for you. Milk isn't supposed to last for days and days, hence why people traditionally got it delivered daily.
    *my tuppence worth* :o

Get your facts right, as well as being pasteurised etc like other milks, it is also filtered to remove bacteria, hence why it lasts longer.

    From the Cravendale site;-
"What make Cravendale purer than other milk?
At Cravendale, we don't just pasteurise our milk. We also finely filter it to make it purer for a fresher taste. And because we remove more of the bacteria that turn milk sour, it lasts a lot longer too."

    "Is anything added to Cravendale?

No, we don't add anything to Cravendale. It is the filtration which makes Cravendale purer"

    "Is your milk homogenized?
Yes, our milk is pasteurised, homogenised and filtered to make it purer. "

Although I am not convinced by their answer to this question, as we have frozen it, defrosted it and then used it as if we had just bought it, i.e. if it had a 20 day use by date on freezing, we started that 20 days from defrosting, no ill effects up to now.

    "Can I freeze Cravendale?
Yes, you can freeze Cravendale, but it needs to be decanted into a suitable container and only frozen for 1 month. Once defrosted, it needs to be used within 24 hours"
Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition

    Thanks OP. Love Cravendale.

And to other posters, this threads about CRAVENDALE @ TESCO. Why not go post your "better" deals on threads of your own rather than going off topic on this one!!

I bow to your unquestioned superior knowledge, far greater experience over a mere MSE novice like me, and your paramount executive authority over posting here.

2 litres of all varieties of Cravendale milk is available for just 81p at ..... ooops ...

    .... it's NOT TESCO

Sorry, better not go "off topic", information not allowed

    Sad really .... :)
