Thanks OP, have been to tesco and stocked up, keep thinking I'd be cheaper owning my own cow as my 3 boys drink so much milk!

Obviously spoken by a person who hasn't even tried Creamfields milk @ 65p for 2 litres ;)

Does that brand have extra long use by dates like Cravendale?

Personally I always buy Cravendale as I live alone and only use milk for my cereal. Cravendale is the only brand that I actually get to use the whole carton. Other brands turn sour too quickly.

Unfortunately the reason Cravendale lasts longer and doesn't sour so quickly is simply because it is packed with antibiotics (from the cow's bloodstream) and preserving agents to make it so. It's ironic that this characteristic makes you think it's better, when in real terms, milk that sours quicker is far more likely to be purer and ultimately better for you. Milk isn't supposed to last for days and days, hence why people traditionally got it delivered daily.

Thanks OP - saw this today and purchased.

We have the Cravendale too because of the long use by date. Maybe that makes it less healthy, maybe not, but it does mean that I don't have to go 'milk and bread' shopping so often and can keep a better handle on our meagre budget!!

Actually, it's the crematic filter that removes the bacteria that makes milk turn sour and therefore makes it more pure.
Antibiotics is commonly found in most brands of milk, just obviously not in organic.

I have tried both & to be honest it's well worth the extra for the Cravendale!
    Try it?

    I have.
I quite frequently buy Cravendale when the price is right (ie. cheaper than ANY other)

I'm quite the lacto aficionado. Drink loads of the stuff

    and all sorts ...

I've had it UNpasteurised (from certified herds), indeed straight from the cow whilst it's still warm.
Gold Top from Jersey cows, Gold Top from Guernsey cows.
I've drank goat's milk, sheep's milk, yak's milk (well it's Nak's to be true), water buffalo milk and camel milk.

They all taste like MILK. Maybe a bit richer & creamy (or not) as the case may be.

Cravendale is both slightly different to some of the others available and it is very very similar to some others on the market.

I've had Cravendale go sour several days BEFORE the "use by" date.
I've drank some non-Cravendale milk up to 7 days AFTER the "use-by" date that was not sour and tasted perfectly fine.

The only stuff I don't like is fully skimmed - absolutely tasteless - might as well be water that's been coloured white.

:rotfl:at all comparing the milks. i have tried both milks but do buy the Creamfields on a regular basis purely as we get through a 4 pint carton a day so is much cheaper for us.

i also hate skimmed milk like someone mentioned its just like water. i think the cravendale is creamer but will prob stick with creamfields as i believe its lower in fat.

    thanks op good find

Thanks OP we saw it before I saw this and was delighted. Only 2 of us in the house but we have 12pints that is dates for 3 weeks.
It may not be the cheapest milk around but it save on the impulse buys when the other stuff goes out of date ;) & I much prefer it.
