Advice on electricity bill

Options
Dear Martin
I am with EDF electricity supply , they came and read my meter every quarter for the pass three year and I always pay my bill on time before the date due never miss my payment , 1 day I realised that they have made a mistake , They have not billed me for the actual electricity that I have used for the pass three year , They only charged me for the standing meter for every quarter , I inform EDF electricity company that They have made a mistake with my electricity bill , now I have received a massive bill over £3.000 . They told me to pay the bill in full amount or £200 a month before February the 8th . I have rung and explained to EDF that I can not afford to play them £ 3.000 nor I could pay them £200 a month ,I have told them this mistake not make by me but by their company who responsible for this problem . can you pleased advise me how to resold this problem .

Did you never wonder why you electricity bills were so low?
Did you ever look at your bill and notice that no units were recorded?
That gum you like is coming back in style.

You will have to come to some sort of arrangement with the utility company about paying back otherwise they may force you on a pre payment meter and you dont want that, nor at present can you move supplier although I hear you may do soon but 3k is a lot of debt

I would say most of us on dual fuel pay around £900 - £1.1k a year on heat and light

Time to go in a home I think. Seriously, if people cannot work this out then they are not responsible enough to live alone.

That would I imagine be for a fairly large house. I have a 2 bedded flat and usually pay about £30 per month combined gas/electric.

£30 a month is very low. I pay £84 a month and I dont waste although I dont skimp either, just over 1k per annum and I am very slightly in debt, just got bills today

£3000 pounds would be a reasonable price if you only receive electricity. In fact since you mistakenly thought the standing charge was the price I'm surprised it is not more since most people would happily use more if they could afford it.

If you have gas and electricity it would be expensive for most households unless you live in a large house.

My dual fuel has just went up to £212 a month, from £170. I've paid by direct debit for years. Every year they adjust the direct debit according to what i've been using. Even if one quarter is an estimate, usually the next one is an actual reading. If the estimate wasn't far off the actual reading i'd just leave it be - if it was way under or over i'd call them.

Strikes me you should be looking at what you are paying for your energy and what you are using it for.
