it looks like if the Tories do win the election, they won't be making all of those drastic cuts many on here are expecting for quite some time

Face it massive cuts are coming....whether it be one, two or five years time and when they do.......................

Look at uni's. Facing huge cuts and it means thousands and thousands of people wont get a uni place

Regarding the universities that might not be a bad thing - perhaps more competition for places might mean that only the best get places........

Recently it seemed that virtually anyone who wanted a university place got one, which to me seemed to dilute the value of a university education.

    Oh dear......

NO PARTY will jeapordise the recovery.

BOTH PARTIES will keep base rates low and HPI ticking up. THEY WONT GET RE-ELECTED if they don't.

Please tell me nobody was stupid enough to believe "Dave" would crash the markets again......

    Were you?

    Really?
there is one little flaw with this ,the fact is the winning party will not be concerned about re-election for another four years at least and the cons have a history of being ruthless when it comes to cost cutting.
another thing one of thatchers old chancellors is osbourns advisor, none other than nigel lawson

Why should only the 'best' get accepted into uni?

If you do fine in sixth year then you should get in.

If you work your up by doing other courses then you should get in.

What do you class as being the 'best'?

Ahhhh, but the bear meme on here for the last few months has been that theres no point buying a house, because the Tories will slash everything in an Emergency Budget within 50 days, so that they can have a big old crash, blame it on Gordon, and then have time to engineer a recovery before the election.

    Except now "Dave" says no.....

No "swingeing cuts" the first year.

And year two is not a good time to engineer another crash to start.....

Leaves any recovery far too close to an election for comfort.

So whats the new bear meme?

Acceptance that it won't happen after the election, unlike what they've been saying for the last 6 months?

There's always something just over the horizon that will cause the next "big leg down", and when that fails to materialise, it switches to something else, then something else, then something else......:rotfl:

University education, like all education, is expensive to provide. Uni should be a -available across socioeconomic backgrounds, if provided in full or part by the tax payer/state, should be done with an awareness of value to the economy and country: that's why it should have some basis on ability and relevance.
If some one less able to perform or contribute to the country's performance and/or well being wants to go and can foot the bill, great....also, non-university continuing education is similarly valuable and on an individual basis, more valuable to some people than a degree: its a shame we continue to down play non-academic skills with a double edged sword that also cuts into the overall standard of academic standard. We are best served by appreciating he benefits of different types of education, abilty and person: square and round: rather than ending up with limited routes to success: the routes not satisfying either the needs of the individuals nor...vitally in this context of public funds...our country.
  • And bad news for you Scots as well  -

Tory MPs want to slash Scotland's budget
    http://www.snp.org/node/16167

I see you got that "news" from the SNP website!!

So there won't be any SNP propoganda in there:rotfl:
The SNP has their own agenda in which they hand out money willy nilly to anyone who asks for it. Lower prescription charges, guaranteed elderly care etc etc, without doing the sums to see if it adds up.
It's gerrymandering politics on a grand scale. Give everybody everything then blame the "nasty" party who realises that it can't be paid for.

They then blame the "nasty" parliament in London for everything.

For the record i don't believe there will be any huge crash but i do think growth will be very low due to all this debt and the cuts to come.

On the news today george osbourn has re-stated that they will cut spending faster than labour,he said they wish to remove the deficit in one term in office.

I don't regard myself as being bear or bull but somewhere in between.
