the conservative have had to back down as they have absolutely no support from business.
all the business leaders CBI etc all support cuts of course but not until the economy improves in 2011.
I think it's all been manufactured by the Labour press machine.
The Tories haven't done a U turn; they clarified that they wanted to cut, but weren't going to cut too hard too soon.

Whoever gets in is likely to be 'forced' into cuts and tax/interest rate rises by the money men - then it'll be somebody else's fault, either the previous govt or the pesky foreigners.

In the meantime, they're all just trying to get into power - see post #2... (and #7)
  • Its a spelling mistake.

    It should read
A Conservative government would not make "swinging cuts" to public spending during its first year, party leader David Cameron has told the BBC.

No chucking out of bowls in The House of Commons just yet.....

No, its not. Swingeing - Old English - means punishing or severe. A word we probably haven't used in centuries. And now toff Cameron is inflicting it on us for all he's worth. He's like a boy with a new word that he likes the sound of. Roll on, Hung Parliament - and hopefully a proportional representation voting system soon after. I can't wait.
  • The Tories - once again - are desperately trying to crash the economy so that they can blame it on Labour. Watch the events of the last few days. Dave went to Davos and was told by the Head of the IMF as well as the assembled economists that his economic policy would crash Britain back into deep recession.

So he pulls back from cuts and its utter disarray. Hammond says they have found cuts worth £1bn, £1.5bn, something like that". Well thats only a 50% difference, and it turns out the number is actually £700m.

But the killer bit for me is here from the FT. Hammond goes all defensive when challenged about CamerOsborne's statements. “nobody is suggesting that we are going to follow Greece” he says.

Except they are. Cameron - “We cannot go on like this, and you just need to look at Greece to see what happens if we do.” Osborne - we face a “a Greek-style budget crisis”.

So, with the Tory lead shrinking more and more, those Bullingdon boys are now desperately trying to spook the city and crash Britain. I've read a lot of economist forecasts about the impending storm in Greece - Britain isn't listed once in the list of countries that could tumble over with them. Unless you are a Tory of course, in which case the wet dream is a big crash which they can say is all Brown's fault.

Labour spin machine is getting tired if this is the best they can do.

Why is British politics all about rubbishing the other party. Even when they are in opposition.

    Yawn...........
