I'm thinking of buying Windows 7 as my computer is currently without windows following some repairs!
If I buy it can I install it on very computer in my house ie my PC & laptop or do you only get one install for your money?
Also where can I get the best price for Full home edition with Student discount?
Thanks very much

Start by doing what's necessary, then what's possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible.

One Windows install per machine; so no, you cannot install same copy of Windows 7 on multiple machines.0

Thanks for that. Just need to find the cheapest now!Start by doing what's necessary, then what's possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible.0

There was talk of a 3 licence family pack but I'm not sure if it was ever released in the UK - worth a check if you do want more than one licence.0

With XP I seem to remember you could activate it on more that one machine, but there has to be a minimum time gap between activations.
Not sure if the same rules apply to Win7 or not.0 -

With the OEM version there's limits to what hardware can be changed before it's classed as a different machine and needs to be re-activated, but you're still limited to one install only.0 -
If you buy a boxed retail version you're only permitted to install and use it on one machine at a time, unless you can snap up one of the Family Packs that came with three licences but I think they were only available for a limited time only.0

What would happen if you installed it on a PC and the PC was damaged beyond repair? Would you then be able to buy a new PC and install the same copy on the newly purchased machine?0 -

A 3 licence Home Premium upgrade was released. Available at Amazon & PC World to name but a few. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Technically no, in reality you can though. I've had the same copy of OEM XP since lauch and have changed PCs several times. Occasionally (depending on the time between activations) I've had to call Microsoft and activate over the phone but never had a problem0
