Barclaycard - late payment? Paid on statement day

After not having been sent my statement (they've been very unreliable since I moved home - 2 of the last 4 statements not received), I forgot that I hadn't paid my Barclaycard.
I pay it off in full every month, generally as soon as I get paid on the 25th of the month. Without the statement reminder, I forgot.
I logged onto Barclaycard this morning (at 7:55am), and the due date is the 1st of Feb (today). I paid the full balance immediately with my Barclays debit card. I wasn't sure whether this would be considered done within normal working hours today (considering it's before any branches are open) or whether it's "yesterday".
Either way, if the money leaves my current account today (as it should - Barclays transfers are generally very quick), would it be considered to have been paid on time?
Barclays website says (For Barclays customers):-
Payments you make to Barclays accounts: These arrive on the same day.
Payments to barclaycard: These arrive the same day, but take a working day to show on your Barclaycard statement.
Does this mean it will show up tomorrow as having been paid today, or will show up tomorrow as being paid tomorrow, and hence late???
If it does "appear" to be late, do I have any recourse if they don't give back late payment fees and/or interest by means of a goodwill gesture?
I know I should set up the direct debit for full payment to stop it happening in the future, and I probably will - but that all depends on whether I stick with Barclaycard. I was foisted upon Barclaycard after they took on the Morgan Stanley card I used to have, so I didn't join them by choice.
They've been pretty poor lately, apart from the lack of statements - my card has been frozen twice by their fraud prevention team, for a lot of high value purchases over the net. We're doing up our house and have bought a lot of stuff, but it's all been scheduled for delivery to the billed address, with correct CVC input.

setting up a DD costs you nothing
missing a payment costs you a fee and a black mark on your credit record0 -
You maybe lucky and it will clear before 1500hrs, saying that I have just checked my statement online and Friday's payment is not cleared off the statement, I don't bother to wait for the statement to arrive through the post, for a 1st 'offence' they may waive a day or 2 late payment.0

From what I remember if you pay a Braclaycard with a Barclays account card they credit the same day. You may not see it until tomorrow but thats just the paperwork catching up.GC Jan £318/£350, Feb £221.84/£300, Mar £200.00/£250 Apr £201.05/£200 May £199.61/£200 June £17.25/£200

NJW: Thanks for the clarification - I believe we're on the same page here.
All I had really been after was reason to believe that payment made on the due date would be considered to be paid on time if the funds left my current account that day (regardless of when Barclaycard decide to officially allocate the money that they received from me towards the credit card balance).
If that money leaves my current account today and I still get a late payment charge, I wanted to make sure that I was fully justified in disputing it.
I had believed that even if I check my Barclaycard account online and the payment shows up tomorrow, it will still be recognised as paid today (retrospectively credited).
As for the DD advice:-
I'm currently reviewing all my Barclay products - i'm in a wrangle about direct debits from Barclays. I've had nothing but trouble with them recently - I'm currently paying for 2 lots of house insurance, on 2 different houses (only 1 of which is mine), as Barclays cocked up when I moved house by creating a new insurance policy instead of modiifying the existing one.0 -
If you do find you get charges it will be worth a phone call as I find most of my ccs will refund an occasional miss if it's only by a whisker like this one! Haven't tried it with my Barcalycard as I try and make sure that gets there in plenty of time in case a late pay would lose me my 1% rebate for the month.
I don't think you'll get far with the debit from your Barclays current account timing as the Bank and the Barclaycard arms don't recognise each other! I moaned when I first got the Barclaycard becuase I couldn't get credit card and bank account on same Barclays online (which you can with others - Nationwide, First Direct etc) and was told there is no liaison between the two operations!0 -
Lolarentt:
I will make the call if I get charged, I have never missed payment before (I don't believe I have today, but technicalities can be a pain) and always pay in full (not a profitable customer for them), so there has to be some "goodwill" gesture for me. I bank with Barclays, I have my home insurance with them, have my Woolwich mortgage with them, I have a credit card with them. Hopefully with all that in mind they'll try and keep me sweet if they do try it on over a technicality.
Interest would be significant this month as it's almost £3000 on the card (house renovating supplies).
Just having a really hard time with Barclays at the moment - they've messed up just about everything they could have in relation to my recent house move. The house insurance is definitely getting kicked into touch when they resolve the "2nd" policy by keeping me insured on my old house! They are about 30% dearer than other equivalent policies I have found.0 -
Hello all,
Just thought you might be interested to know what happened to my friend after paying off a large chunk of his credit card.
He has had a credit card account with Caravan Club for around 16 years, they were apparently taken over by Barclays. He got into financial strife around 18 months ago and has continued to pay the repayments regularly by direct debit, though not always the amount that they have required. Recently he paid off around £8000 off the debt which was around £9,500. Immediately that he did this they reduced his credit limit to below what was outstanding and charged him a late payment and an over-limit payment, which they made happen by reducing his credit limit to below what was now outstanding.
To the best of my knowledge he has now paid it all off, but they have closed his account. Will he stand any chance of getting back his late charges over the past 18 months, I think they charged him £12 twice every month whilst he was in difficulty, once for late payment (although it was never late it was not the amount they wanted) once for over limit (caused due to interest on overall amount not being met).
It doesn't exactly give you good incentive to fullfill payments on other cards and debts, if this is the way you are treated for doing your best does it? Any advice greatly appreciated.0 -
He should have spoken to the credit card company, posted an income and expenditure sheet, explained the financial hardship, and agreed an arrangement to pay temporarily with the interest frozen.
From the sounds it, he never bothered informing the credit card company that he was suffering financial hardship. If they were none the wiser, from their perspective he was just being irresponsible and not bothering to service his debt for no reason.
I doubt they would re-open the account. He should apply for a credit card elsewhere, after spending a long time considering whether he will be able to manage a new credit card account better than this oneCashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

maisbitt: How did the story end? I'm in the same situation, and am wondering if (a) the payment will be taken as having been paid on time since the date of payment is the due date AND I paid online via Barclays and (b) if I do get a late payment penalty, whether I'll be able to contest it.0

I've found with Barclaycard if I pay online via their website during working hours on a weekday using a debit card, then the payment is credited same day. If I pay in the evening, it goes through next day. Bizarrely I've had the odd payment credited the day before I made it!
Note it doesn't appear right away, just when in does it's back dated.
I've always paid with a few days to spare - but based on my experience it looks like you'll get away with it..0
