Depending on how much money you husband can free up you and how helpful the mortgage company are you may have to default on the unsecured debts to concentrate on the important things -as has already been said.

Hi Regret - I have just signed on and have read your thread. WELL DONE GIRL YOU CAN DO IT!! as has already been said the hardest bit was admitting your problem and starting the process by getting on here. Lots of talented people who will give you good advice. But what about hubby - did you sit down with him? has he understood and have your got his support? You are both newly weds and you need each other for a long time. Are you able to take on anything to increase you income? I have taken a 2nd job - pay not great but mentally it helps - keeps me occupied and the little I get I am going to throw at one debt at a time. Keep posting and keep going xx:j I belong to Mike's Mob :j0

Hope you have managed to tell hubby as you do need his support. In your first post, you stated that you had started gambling due to depression. Have you had any help form you GP for the depression? It does make you do things which are out of character and whiolst I appreciated you need to sort your finances out you also need to get your health sorted too. Going to the gym will help, as it increases your "feel good" factor but speak to your GP too. Good luck and keep posting0

As you are still young why not see if your mortgage provider will switch your mortgage so it is interest only for the next couple of years? They may do this now or when you remortgage. I think it will free up around £300 each month that you could use to reduce your debts that have higher interest rates. When you have reduced/paid off your unsecured debts switch your mortgage back and use the cash you were using to pay off those unsecured debts and overpay on your mortgage. You may even find (with a bit of discipline) that you repay your mortgage earlier than you planned as you will not be servicing any other debt.

Hi, I've just had a quick scan through the thread and you've got some good advice, I just wanted to say the gamblers support thread is here:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1090463&highlight=gamblers+support+thread
If you haven't posted there already I suggest you do, it's really friendly and people will know exactly how you're feeling and will be able to help you.
Well done for admitting your problem and making a start sorting it out, that's the most important step.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
i really thought i would get messages calling me stupid and worse (still what i deserve)
You're not stupid. You might have done a stupid thing, but that doesn't make you stupid. There's a difference. In fact, you're far from stupid as you have recognised the problem and are doing something about it. Be positive. It IS going to get better.
About telling OH (if you haven't already) - have a plan. By that I mean say "I have done this, but I have this plan to try to solve it." At least then it will give you something to focus on as a couple. Even if it turns out your plan is not feasible, he might have a better one. You never know.0 -
thanks all for your lovely messages of support. it has been a really tough week. i havent told my OH yet, i havent really had time to sit down with him as weve both been at work. thats a good idea for the mortgage, we have a review soon anyway because were coming to the end of the fixed rate so maybe that can be arranged.LBM- may2010:A0
