I'm left handed and use a magic can open too. I don't know if it's because I grew up in the 70s and had to grow up in a right handed world but although I'm a leftie, I use right handed scissors and have never bought anything specifically for lefties. It's interesting as I was the only leftie in my family and my DS who is 4 is left handed too. Could be because we spend a lot of time together I suppose.:hello:

I'm the only 'leftie' in our house, but haven't got a left-handed bread knife. I'm the only one in our house who can actually slice a loaf properly using the right-handed knife :rotfl:
I sew, knit and crochet right-handed as that's the way I was taught from being small, and use scissors right-handed as there weren't any left-handed ones when I was small either - I think it is possible to learn how to use the 'wrong' hand reasonably well, even if not perfectly.0 -
Hi there
I am a left handed OS'er. I use one of those hand operated tin openers that takes the whole of the top of the can off. Not sure what they are called, The device clamps on to the top of the tin, by closing the handles together, it pierces the lid under the rim, and then you twist a dial on the top and the opener cuts the top of the tin off.
( if i could just think of the name of it) No problems using it and no spills.

I'm left-handed and have never bought anything specifically for left-handers. I use a bog-standard tin opener and, like another poster, hold it with my left hand and turn with my right. I've got an old-fashioned potato peeler with I use with my left-hand but peel away from me. I don't think I could learn to use a left-handed one now. My DH and I are both lefties but the kids are righties. Sorry, this isn't much help for your DD!0

I don't know what to do with ds. He's a leftie and has never managed to learn to use scissors. He's now 16. Tried left and right handed scissors. He uses the right handed can opener all right, but never bothers with the lefthanded one his gran bought him.[SIZE=-1]"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. lots of lefties on here!
I was the only right handed person in my family 'till my son was born, so I felt the odd one out!
I've come to the conclusion that there must be degrees of lefthandedness.
We never bothered with special left handed stuff for anyone in my family as they all got by, nor DH and his left handed dad.
DD was treated the same but she's 19 now and feels she should be able to open a tin of beans infront of anyone without embarrassing herself, which I can understand:D
She already has left handed dressmaking scissors after making a right mess of fabric at school for her GCSE exam.
Have ordered a magican opener for her.
Thanks for all the replies0 -

I've got one of those. It's made by Zyliss (at least mine is), and leaves both edges smooth (no nasty jagged edges). It wasn't cheap, but it's lasted me for a few years now. I turn it with my right hand though.0 -
Oh I have a nightmare with tin openers, invariably I end up getting OH or DD's (all right handed) to open tins for me . I may try the magican after reading this thread.
I do have left handed scissors for dressmaking and a left handed potato peeler , other than that I think I have adapted to a right hand world rather well
