Any left handed oldstylers?

Hubby is left handed but can use an ordinary tin opener, DD is left handed and can't.
We have tried all sorts over the years, including the ones that say for left or right handed use, but none are great, tins lean over at odd angles and the contents spill, or it gets stuck etc.
Its her birthday in a couple of weeks and she has asked for a tin opener (different!) that she can use without spilling the tin contents or giving up and putting half opened tin in the fridge till one of use gets in.

Can anyone point me in the right direction please?
Would rather a hand operated one, not electric.

What types have you tried? I'm left handed and prefer the simple butterfly tin opener. I hold the tin opener in my left hand and turn the turney thing with my right hand.

I do have problems with other tin openers though. They just make me feel cack handed!

edit: Just thought, have you tried the shop Anything Lefthanded? I'm sure it will come up in a google search.

We have a butterfly one which hubby and I both use, and you hold it the same as we do but she has trouble getting the right hand to turn it, it sounds so simple but she just does not have the co ordination to do it.
Also tried the type that sits on top of the tin and she cant do that either.
In fact thinking on it I guess she needs a left handed butterfly one, off to google that.

Ah. I wasn't sure if I the way I open tins is left or right handed as I tend to use my right hand for most things (through necessity mostly).

I've had a look and Anything Lefthanded sell a couple of tin openers on this page.

  • I'm left-handed and use a magican tin opener with no problems. OH is also left-handed but he never opens tins so I can't tell you how he gets on with the magican.

Incidentally, you'd think with both parents and 3 grandparents left-handed at least one of our kids would be a lefty - but no, all right-handed. Freaks!

I'm a lefty and I use either a butterfly or magician one :)
  • hi, I'm a lefty and i use an electric one as i just can't get on with any others. i get quite alot of stuff from anything left handed. They have fab stuff but can be expensive (i bought a bread knife and a vegetable knife and they cost me £30 but they do have a lifetime guarantee.) My DH and kids cant bear to watch me when i use 'normal' knives. I also love my scissors too.

I have an Easycan tin opener, works for both left and right handers and is made of robust white plastic so you can always find it in the drawer! During food tech lessons at school my teacher used to open all my tins for me with the school openers, we all used to laugh about that!
