I need help with a faulty dress from george.

Options
Hi, I bought a lovely white linen dress from george with blue flowers on it.
Wore it once, washed it with other whites on a cool wash and not only has the pattern run onto the dress it has casued blue streaks on the rest of my load - all white.
Basically I two towels, two white vests and a white gypsy skirt may have to be binned.
I'm pretty sure I can get a refund for the dress(which I love btw) but where do I stand with the other ruined garments.
i want to know my rights before I storm in with guns blazing!!

thanks
Third time lucky on WW I hope :j

Afraid not sure where you stand on this - but what you dont ask for you dont get! Take the dress in and show them the damage it has done - I would of thought that you will probably get a refund for the dress but I wouldnt have thought they will give you anything for the other ruined garments

To be honest I would probably have washed it first time on its own if it had some colour on it - have seen the colour of water coming out of the washing machine from new clothes!

if I had bought an all black dress I might just might have washed it by its self in the sink, but if it was a white dress with blue pattern I would never have expected the colours to run thereby ruining the dress itself. So I would be at customer services with all ruined items asking nicely (first time) for a refund and compensation for everthing else ruined. Good luck

Many companies will compensate for the whole thing-but cs may not be the best place.Try head office by phone-get a name-go to shop with authorization from head office. It wasnt a 30 degree wash instruction though was it?

Like any self respecting male I know nothing about washing and ironing but have just checked with my maid who says ... first check to see what the label says and ensure you followed the instructions to the letter. If so (and I am paraphrasing here) why did you wash something with colour in it with other clothes .. she says anything with even a smigeon of colour should be washed separately the first time to ensure there are no problems (must take this up with her sometime because I remember an event were all my lovely white underwear turned a lovely shade of pink ... the guys at the gym see me in a whole new light now).

I think the limit of liability will be with the dress itself however you can still politely enquire about it (they may say to claim the other stuff off your household insurance)

On a subtly different matter anybody who has been to America will know that clothes do not seem to suffer from this problem over there. They wash in cold water

Surely the point is and you need to take it up with your maid Ivan, if the article is washed at correct temperature the blue should never have run into an otherwise white dress that after all was manufactured by GEORGE. I would have trusted them to make a simple 2 colour garment. If we have to buy all 2 colour things and handwash them can I have a maid like you please..........

Yes but for the first time of washing, however little colour there was I would wash it on its own for fear of the colour running.

I hope you realise that to answer this I have asked her to stay behind and she will probably be expecting double time. Something to do with the way dyes are absorbed into material ... the main colour wil be absorbed but it is possible that some 'surface' (unbonded) dye is sitting there which will be released the first time it is washed (sometimes, apparently, even in a rain shower). She basically says anything with colour should be washed separately the first time (to check) and always use a 'colour' washing powder/liquid/tablet (not standard stuff which contains bleaches etc.

My maid is always eager for additional custom. :D

I would like to think the manufactures to take all necessary steps to test their dyes, after all we are in the 21st century. If they fail, then I would hope and expect them to pay up and to be fair they usually do. I really dont want to have to handwash all new clothes that have two colours. Course if in real doubt, handwash anything you love and treasure. Must say its been a long time since i had a problem with colours running, so after all cant be that big a deal to refund and compensate from a big company like George.
