Cheque question

Anyone ever had cheques honoured that were paid into an account AFTER 6 months from the issue date?

Just a generic question btw :)

You're usually advised to get them reissued, they're accepted as a symbol that a debt had to be paid but are not generally negotiable after that 6 month period.

If the cashier accepts it, and its for a low value then it more than likely will go through as it rarely gets picked up.

Once the value rises above about £1000 then more checks start to come in.
These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!

I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!

Interesting :) I wonder if anyone working in a bank might be able to verify... sorry it's just an interesting conversation that I had (as you do) and I said that the expiry is 6 months and they said "oh but I've had cheques older than that accepted and paid..." Causing me a bit fo confusion as to if they're likely to actually accept it etc. if the issuing bank will honour it or not and so on... I always thought it was 6 months and then you have to get it re-issued...

They will not accept it if they check the date.

Some - maybe even a lot - of the time they will not check the date
