Who leaves feedback first - buyer or seller?

  • I use Auctiva's automatic feedback settings to leave feedback for buyers the second they do so for us. Acknowledging that their is such a thing as a problem buyer (not returning an item or simply not getting in contact), I personally believe that the transaction is complete once positive feedback has been left by the buyer. To us this proves that they are happy with the transaction and do not wish to return the item and it is therefore complete.

With regards to new ebayers leaving a negative: If the buyer has made no attempt to contact you whatsoever but leaves a negative you can submit the negative for removal. This is due to the buyer falsely ticking the 'I have made attempt to contact the seller' button.

As a buyer, when checked and all OK. As a seller I used to give once paid, but now after they do; I'm hacked off with the numbers not bothering after I had. I put a polite note in with the item asking buyers to leave feedback if they are happy with their purchase and this generally works fine, getting feedback as soon as it arrives.
Over the years I'm a few hundred feedbacks down from the CBA buyers. It's also annoying when they email all good, thanks very much and then don't bother to leave feedback on ebay.

Yeah, that's always been my reasoning behind waiting until i have received feedback from a buyer. I guess i find it frustrating that their score will go up and mine won't. There do seem to be more than half of my buyers recently who just haven't bothered to leave feedback. I can onlly assume this is not because the item hasn't arrived / is no good, as they surely would have contacted / claimed?!

Why does it matter who leaves it first? It's voluntary isn't it?

    Or am I missing something?

    Yes.
However leaving after payment does make for a happy customer (no idea why, but it does!), and a happy customer = return business.

I'm usually a buyer (when I can afford it) and it really annoys me that the seller has received my money and yet hasn't lefy me feedback. If they're waiting for me to leave mine then they cannot have enough confidence in their product to think I am not going to be delighted.

Once you've sold a fair amount of items you'll realise that some buyers are total morons, so it's safest to wait until they leave feedback before leaving feedback as the seller.

My customers tend to return to my website for repeat purchases, rather than ebay...!

I've got to the point where I have more than enough feedback and high enough DSR ratings to prove my worth, and I am more interested in revenue/profitability than chasing pretty coloured stars or subjective scores that may or may not give me a badge to wear for a month.

I auto-reply to any feedback left, and the one person who demanded it from me upon payment was NARU'd for feedback blackmailing. :D
