BT now Blocking 1899&18866 overides.

Hiya, ime new to this forum so i am just finding my way.I have been using 18866 for some years now on my BT landline without problem and have recently signed up with 1899 so that i can get cheaper 070 calls, but on dialling these overiders then 070 i get repeated announcements off BT that all the network is busy. This is a load of tosh because as soon as i dial the 070 number without using the overide number i get straight thru. I thought this type of barring was illegal.????????:mad:

    When you dial the access code the call leaves BT,so its 1899/18866 network that is not connecting you, not BT.
  • I recently singed up with 18866 having faced trouble with 0844 numbers from a BT landline. It is not all going very well with 18866. Many times the calls get connected but with muted voice. This is wasting quite a lot of money as for every call they take a standard connection fee. Frustrated.
  • Both 1899 and 18866 worked ok on other numbers dialled that were not 070's so i still reckon its bt blocking.

    I wouldn't expect 18866 18185 etc to work for 070 calls, and I suspect you'd have trouble with trying to use any cheap calls provider to reach them.

    Good point. I recall that, when my Mother was in hospital a couple of years ago, I tried one or other of 1899, 18866 and 18185 because the website listed a price for calling her PatientLine bedside phone (an 070 number) which was cheaper than the 49p BT quoted.

    Needless to say, I couldn't get through (and dialling via BT worked instantly).

    1899's website quotes 15p/minute for 070 'personal' numbers;
    18866's website quotes 20p/minute for 070 'personal' numbers;
    18185's website quotes 25p/minute for 070 'personal' numbers.

    I expect those companies facilitate connections to certain number ranges within the 070 group, but not those which are, in reality, above 15p, 20p and 25p respectively.
    Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    There you go, the first half of your sentence proves it is not BT blocking it as 1899 and 18866 work for other numbers. Like as been said as soon as you dial 1899 or 18866 it is no longer on the BT network.
    It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

    I've been Money Tipped!
    I just tried 1899, 18185 to call my folks and the announcement said that the service was temporarily unavailable and to try again later. I then called 1866 and the number etc, then it said 67p in an american accent and I hung up before anything else was said and I'm wondering what I dialled through to and how they are going to charge as I now see that I got the prefix number wrong and it is 18866, not 1866. Anyone any ideas? I am with Planettalk for all my calls and use Finarea companies (all above) for daytime calls and have done so for years. BT have plagued me with calls pestering me as to who I'm using during day for calls, it's a pain.

    I have had trouble connecting to the united states today using 18185. Here's the trouble report I've just sent to customer services.
    When attempting to dial a telephone number in the United States, using the 18185 service, I kept getting the following BT announcement:
    “This is a BT announcement. The telephone network is busy at the moment, please try again later. You have not been charged for this call.”
    I kept trying for a connection using 18185 between 4.25pm and 5.45pm GMT, but could still not connect and kept getting the BT announcement message.
    However, when I dialled the same US telephone number, WITHOUT using 18185, the call was immediately connected.
    This leads me to believe that BT are not allowing overseas phone calls using the 18185 service.
    Please confirm if this is the case.
    Thank you.
    If BT are indeed barring 18185 overseas calls, then I'm knackered as I phone the states regularly and my conference calls are 1 hour minimum!
