Total Fitness - Cancelling my contract!
Comments
-
If you still have your membership pointers I trust you still have the original contract you signed and on the back of that it states
"Unless the Member, four weeks before expiration of the current membership, gives the Company written registered notice terminating the same the Member agrees that Membership shall automatically continue for a further year on the same terms as herein stated save that the payment due shall be the then ruling Membership Rate."
It also states on your pointers that they are there for guidance and in any conflict the terms and conditions on the rear of your contract shall prevail
I know this because I also joined Total Fitness in 2007 and that's what it says on my contract so expect a fight but good luck
."The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

Thank you everyone who responded! As i haven't signed any other contract than the original I will be putting a cancellation letter togther tonight and it will be handed in to the local gym and one sent, recorded delivery, to the main office and i will be putting in a reminder in my moby, my laptop, my ipod and my outlook in work to cancel the DD on the date specified!
Thanks again to you all!!:T
Have a good one!
Letters handed in very often get lost and say that having worked in several gyms - or more to the point, members often claim to have cancelled by handing a letter in and we know full well they did not. Thus anyone whose letter genuinely gets lost is ignored. Send two copies one to the club and one to head office BOTH by recorded delivery.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Update:
I have been to the local gym where I joined and asked to speak to someone about cancelling my gym membership.
I spoke to one of the membership guys and explained that I needed to give a months notice of cancellation due to my personal finances. The guy did a check on the system for my payments and membership details and then filled out a Request to Membership Administrator form and we completed the cancellation request part and the guy ticked the 1 calendar month notice and member completed 12 months (excluding freeze time) options.
I asked if I needed to put anything in writing and was told no the form is the 4 week notice. I was advised not to cancel my DD yet as a payment is to be taken on the 1st of March for march. I need to check this with the main office as a payment has only just come out on the 1st Feb and I was sure that you paid a month in advance, so I think I am covered...
I just checked my agreement that I signed and I made a debit card payment of £69.99 for my first month date 01/02/07 and then a DD was set up from the next month 01/03/07 for £38.99 on wards. The signing date was 16/01/07. So it looks like I paid from the 01/02/07 two payments (even though I signed up on the 16/02/07) and then I was paying the £38.99 on from there... So that to me looks like I paid a month in advance..
Does anyone really know the complete answers to all this stuff as it seems there are different gyms that have similar polices but police them I different ways...
Optimist: Mine pointer says something similar "If a member wishes to terminate their membership at any time after completion of twelve months, they must do so in writing and give one calendar months notice. If notice of cancellation is not received membership will continue on the same terms."
So even if I did miss the window of opportunity after the first twelve months and stick with it for the next twelve months, that part of the contract to tie me in is now over and done with when continuing in to year three. If this was not the case then you could be stuck in a membership that if you didn’t catch the 4 week notice at near the end of the next year it would be a rollover of membership! Now I have just done the Euro Millions for a rollover and that’s the only one I want to be hearing about J0 -
Oh i will be posting the two cancellation letters to the local gym and the head office too just in case by the way, recorded delivery!!
Cheers0 -
Make sure that you stop paying them. If you pay by DD or standing order, contact your bank and cancel the arrangement. If it's a credit card mandate (ugh!), call the card company and report the card lost. .
Don't do this. DD can re set up. And you'll end up getting bad debt and possible affect your credit rating. Write to them saying you wish to cancel your contract if they kick up fuss if they refuse.0 -
As i was given a bit of duff information from the local gym i decided to call the main TF office in Wilmslow and speak to someone in the Membership Office to confirm what i should do correclty and to see if the extra payment was to come out of my account adding another payment and another month to the membership.
I spoke to a lovley lady on the phone and explained my circumstances and she asked me to email in my request to cancel my membership to membership@totalfitness.co.uk and she would make sure that the membership was cancelled for the end of Feb.
So i am less confused, a little more better off and a little bit happier!
Thanks TF lady! :TAnd thanks to everyone on here!!:T0 -
I've just cancelled my membership to TF as in I've sent an e-mail to the club. I've been a member before and found their cancellation to be no real issue at all, I e-mailed them the manager phoned me to acknowledge receipt of the e-mail and thanked me for my business. I cancelled Fitness First once and it was almost a legal battle!0
