What container for spring onions?

Desperate to do spring onions this year, but am growing entirely in pots and containers. What sort of container is right for spring onions? I have heard you can do them in a bog standard seed tray- is this true? Is it deep enough?

Out of a standard plant pot- how many did you get?

I realise I need to get hold of some bigger containers, im doing lots ogf "big stuff" so would prefer to use my smaller pots wherever possible
