1st Birthday present from Grandparents

My DD's 1st birthday is next month and my M&D would rather not buy her toys or clothes. We have thought of some jewelry like a bangle but I think DD would be more interested in trying to eat it  . They have offered money which would get put in her account but they would rather buy her something a bit different. Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Might be boring but how about premium bonds? My nana bought me £2 worth (showing my age there lol) when i was born and i still have some.
You never know your dd might even win a million and can keep you in the manner you could very easily become accostomed0 -
Minimum purchase of premuim bonds is now £100.
How about suggesting they pay to have a professional family photograph taken? Something your daughter will come to treasue in years to come, especially if (sorry to be morbid) she doesn't get the chance to remember all the family for real, and you can all enjoy now, in fact the get-together for these things is usally fab too, you could invite as many or as few people as you like.
Books are always a good bet, you can get some fab childrens versions of classics which you could read together & create some family memories.
A years membership to Tumbletots or similar.
Something like a handmade height chart which can not only be used for your daughter but retained for future generations?
HTH;)Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p
In England we have Mothering Sunday & Father Christmas, Mothers day & Santa Clause are American merchandising tricks:mad: Demonstrate pride in your heirtage by getting it right please people!0 -
I'm sorry, grandparents used to be able to buy £10 worth but that seems to have ended.
Opening a bank account or a childrens bond are more boring suggestions0 -
How about if your parents bought a moulding kit and you could take a mould of her hands/feet something that you can keep forever.
You're lucky to have a M&D that want to give her something. My DS's 1st Christmas present from my mum was a rectangle (6inch by 12 inch) of yellow and green knitting.

This is similar to AnnieH's suggestion, you can get imprints done of your child's feet and or hands @ https://www.imprints.org
We did this for both our children and it was the best £55/£60 we ever spent on them. Even if they don't want to spend that much, they could always put money towards it.0 -
It is incredibly elaborate, but if they want to get something outrageous, how about a tiffany teething ring.
My son got one for his Christening present and it was the best thing to cure the teething pains and something really special at the same time.
Alternatively premium bonds or money in the bank account is best. If they want to give a gift how about a touchy feely book from Usbourne books.0 -
My parents bought a wooden toybox for their grandchild's first birthday. They painted it and got some of those wooden letters to stick her name on it. It was one of those 'bench' type boxes and my mum made a little cushion for it too. My sister was thrilled with it and it's something that will be seen and used and for years and years.
Alternatively there are lots of internet sites selling beautiful personalised toyboxes - they are a bit pricey though.0 -
Thanks for all your suggestions, still none the wiser though  , but I have a few options I can follow up.
Destiny33 - will put the idea of premium bonds to them,I think £100 might but above the budget though, we'll see.......
Lilibet - Have already have some prof photo's taken and her bedroom is like a library. Like the membership idea, will look into that one.
AnnieH - (Hope your LO is better). We had a hand and foot print done when she was 4 weeks old. Had it done in John Lewis, was quite expensive at £60 but well worth it, we were delighted with it. What a shame that Gran can't knit, the yellow/green combo sounds fab :rotfl: .
Cheapie Clare - Totally agree with you, best thing we've had done.
Counting Pennies - Oooh Tiffany. Will so check this one out. Love Tiffany stuff, alas I don't have any but my DD may soon have
Anymore ideas will be much appreciative0 -

This is a really nice idea, thanks for this. I may put the idea in their head for christmas or birthday number 2 as we are having an extension next month and I have thought about having some kind of chest to put DD's toys in when we have much more room than we have now. Great idea :T Thanks.0 -
Like the idea of the toybox, for her 1st birthday in a few weeks we have got Little Miss Highland a necklace with a star on it because she is our "little star" http://www.laurenrose.co.uk/acatalog/D_for_Diamond_Sterling_Silver_Diamond_Star_Pendant.html more of a keepsake really.
I will really have to learn how to do the links properly,sorry.0
