I last paid them in February 2009 so will have to pay my bill next week before they threaten court again!
I am one of the awkward ones that refuse to pay monthly or in advance, legally you're not in arrears until a day after the last day of the accounting year; therefore I keep the annual amount and pay it when i'm ready (usually after a few threats) and I get around £25 interest for the year - not a lot but very MSE!

Lovely job.
Straight into my savings as I move towards my first goal of getting rid of my £180 per month loan one year early.
 everyoneCredit cards + Loans - Savings in Jan 2012 = £26,228.16 . Need to get paying them off!0 -

Is there something in the rules stipulating this is OK to do? If so I will be doing it next year. Anything that annoys the council tax people is great.Credit cards + Loans - Savings in Jan 2012 = £26,228.16 . Need to get paying them off!0 -

OOHHH I like the sounds of that
However I normally start getting the red letters if I miss more than 1-2 months and the threats start... and then the month after they say there gonna to add another 10% to it if I don't pay by X date as there going to court

But then you write to them and tell them when you'll pay. I get court threats all the time, but I fire a letter back telling them not to be so silly as until the end of February, the account is not 'technically' in arrears and I point out that if they take me to cout, i'll be more than happy to prove to the judge that I have the funds set-aside to pay when I am ready.
I then ask them to provide proof of any act that stipulates I must pay in advance and not in arrears, (there isn't any!)

My councils terrible, I was withholding c-tax a couple of years ago, called and told them I was doing so... could prove I had the money put away ect... They passed the debt to a collection agency, who then started adding £25 for sending me a letter ect. Just payed as it was getting OTT

That is shocking, to be fair my council don't mess around like that, but then they probably only service 100 people so know us all on first name basis :rotfl::rotfl:

I don't know why CT can't simply be split even over 12 instalments like with gas, electric, phone etc0

I moved in with my boyfriend and as he is a student and his daughter is a student they don't have to pay council tax, but at least I get the 25% off the bill. His house is around 3 bands higher than my house so I have around £1000 more to pay a year.....arghhhhhhhhhhhhh. On the positive side they split it over 3 months, the negative as soon as its paid,I will have to start paying next years.:rotfl: l love this site!! :rotfl:0
