Online customers get priority of limited items to keep the managers avalibility statistics up, many things are pre-picked in the morning for online customers0

The system never makes substitutions only the pickers do that, fair point about the drivers comment but your understanding of how a substitute works is totally wrong. I've picked shopping for tesco thousand of times.
They showed me the sheet the picker used to to pick my shopping. On it was printed 1 x 200 pack Superkings and on the line below was 1 x 20 Woodbines.
No mention of it being a substitution, as far as the picker would have known that was what I ordered.
Or does the picker sit at a computer and go the your shopping list and change it before they go out on the shop floor?
I stood with the CS lady, a supervisor and the person who picked my shopping and they showed me the sheet and told me that is what I ordered and that is what was picked. It wasn't until I showed them the sheet the driver left, and the email confirmation that they believed that I had not ordered the Woodbines.
I'm sure you have picked a thousand times, but would you know if the system makes a change and does not tell you it is a substitution?
i.e. I order 2 x "YYY" and the computer prints out my order as being 1 x "YYY" and 1 x "ZZZ".
Or, to put it another way, would you as a picker substitute an item when there were plenty of the items ordered and there was no need to substitute?0 -
Surely a paying customer, is a paying customer & no priority should be given to either weather it be online or offline.
You would think so, but many people pop into a store "just to pick up a loaf". If the store doesn't have the loaf then they may just leave the store, but if they have the loaf the person may stay and buy other items.
On the other hand, if you order a loaf on Tuesday night, for delivery on Wednesday, along with a load of other items, and they don't have that loaf when your order is picked you still buy all the other items you ordered.
it's not fair, but it makes the store more money.0 -
Sounds a bit far fetched to me and I don't belive it at all, something went wrong but I don't think a huge company like tesco would risk their reputation with a scam considering the fierce competition with asda0

I've never shopped online yet - mainly due to having to order so much in one go to make it worthwhile, plus most of what I buy is fresh stuff anyway. I've thought about it once in a while for heavy/long life stuff if I could work out a practical list.
One thing that would bother me about veg is that I may choose something that looks good that day, as some things are better some days than others whereas you can't tell that online!0 -
I've used Tesco and Sainsbury and have to say I'm much happier with Tesco. Used them this week as had a £10 off voucher posted (thank you Tesco) and they had some good deals - 5 for £10 on meat which means meals are sorted for at least the next week. Only one short dated item, one substitution which was price matched, and it came to £47 (the order not the sub). I really don't care what you believe, I ordered 2 x 200 packs of tipped superking fags and they delivered 1 plus 1 pack of 20 Woodbines.
I rang the shop and they said they had plenty of the 200 packs.
So I went to the shop, with the intention of having a go at the idiot that picked my shopping, but the CS lady and Supervisor proved to me that it was not the pickers fault. He just picked what the computer printout listed.
Later, friends who worked for Tesco (I used to work there too) told me how the computer system works. I have no doubt it was the computer system that did it, not the person who picked my shopping.
I also don't think it is much of a risk for Tesco, or any other supermarket, as who actually follows up substitutions?
They clearly get away with having "buy 2 for £X" offerers when the sum of buying 2 is cheaper than buying two together. e.g. Buy 2 for £2.50 when the individual price is only 90p.
If they can get away with that then they can get away with stuff you could never find out about.
It would also make financial sense to push slow selling items on customers.
There's an easy way to verify it, next time you have something substituted ring the store (not the internet CS) and ask if they have the item in stock.0 -
I shopped online this week with sainsburys as they sent me a free delivery code. I find it handy whilst Im on a diet as I tend to get just the basics rather than the extras Id buy if I walked round the shop.0

Worked and got my delivery from same shop, this simply does not happen, yours must be a one off.0
