I had my first Sainsburys delivery yesterday.

Bang on time, everything in stock and everything with a decent sell by date.

I normally use Asda, but with them pishing me about with my money last week, I'm not going to use them anymore.

Plus the stuff I'd get from them would have that days or the days after date on, which meant we'd have to eat whatever was going to go off first in order ~ bloody pain that is when in your head you have already planned the weeks meals.

Tesco, urrghhh. Used to use them for home shopping years ago, but won't now ~ I hate the place and hate handing over any of my money to them!

I'll try Sainsburys another couple of times and see how I get on. I don't actually mind their delivery charge, because if I went out in person and shopped (which is hard anyway pushing a pram and a trolley so I wouldn't be able to do a proper shop!), I'd only end up spending more!

I tried Sainsbury's online a while ago but gave up on it as it was more hassle that just popping down to the store in person.

I normally get quite a few ready meals and I always try and get the longest dated ones, so that I'm not having to worry about what I eat each day, but quite often I'd get meals that only had a couple of days sell by left! I usually try to get at least 5 days on everything even if it means reaching for stuff at the back, but online shoppers probably don't have time to delve to the back of the shelf and will just grab what's on top.

I used on line shopping when i lived at my mum's and it wasn't bad though there was the usual substiution issues and poor use by dates...

However I wouldn't try them now I don't think as I have heard from people in my area how there are issues both with Asda and Tesco with regards to substution issues and lateness...I know when i worked in a supermarket the older stuff i.e the stuff about to go out of date was always brought forward so that's another reason I don't use them as i know i have had problems with stuff running out of date too fast...

So that's why i like instore. I can pick my own meat and veggies and i can choose a later use by date.....

If you don't specify "No substitutions" or specify a particular substitution, they computer system sometimes takes the opportunity to slip in a substitute of the slowest selling item in that line. Especially if you order more than one of an item. Thneyslip in the substitution hoping you will accept it as you did get at least one of what you oreded.

Absolute Garbage, this does not work like that at all, if there is a substitution the teampad will suggest an item to substitute based on previous substitutions. The picker chooses what they substitute it with.

Why is everyone get so upity about substitutions, surely it is better to be offered an alternative that is price matched rather than get nothing at all, no one forces you to take it.

I prefer to shop online, but that's because I don't have a car and can only carry a limited amount home with me from the supermarket. I've used tesco, sainsburys and asda, and never had a late delivery. I'll happily use all of them again, although sainsburys is my favourite as their drivers are the most friendly. They are always happy to take back any unsuitable substitutions or short shelf life goods, so never had a problem there either! I can understand people prefering to pick their own fruit, veg and meat, but not having to carry it home outweighs that desire for me!

Not garbage at all. I went to the store and they showed me that they had plenty of the item, but the substitution was made by the system and was printed on the sheet the picker used.

They told me a picker will only choose the substitute if there are no items left when picking. e.g. if the system processes the order and there there are two items on the shelf, but by the time the picker gets to the shelf in store customers have picked them up.

In my case I did not have the opportunity to reject the item because the driver told me everything was there. I had not ordered online before and did not know to check, I just took his word for it.

Apart from that, there is the question of clearly unsuitable items that get substituted. There is a whole thread about stupid substitutions on here somewhere.

My particular favourite was the woman who ordered a box of tampons and it was substituted with a Twix.

The system never makes substitutions only the pickers do that, fair point about the drivers comment but your understanding of how a substitute works is totally wrong. I've picked shopping for tesco thousand of times.

I had a customer who I was delivering to had asked for lurpack and got delivered chunky chicke. Funny thing was he took it as he fancied for his sandwiches. Also an employee on his last day did some bizarre subs which included a mars bar instead of a weightwatcher shake!!!
  • I have used Asda - but that was mainly for alcohol and we had no fresh products. Have also used Waitrose (normally shop there) mainly because my colleague gave me a £10 voucher and because they have free delivary over £50. All the products we ordered we received, only subsitution was a air freshener. However our main concern was life dates, but all our products had long dates even with out asking for them.

I would definatly use Waitrose again!!!!

I was also told that if they only have a certain number of fast selling items left, the computer will substitute the item in order to leave what stock they have for in store customers.

Surely a paying customer, is a paying customer & no priority should be given to either weather it be online or offline.
