as per this post (post 19) http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=29533997&postcount=19

i created a repair disc weeks ago now when i boot up i keep getting a reminder to create a repair disc do i have to keep creating one even tho i done it weeks ago?
  • Sounds like the compaq's own system recovery system again, windows will not prompt you again to create a system repair disk, can you tell me if it is asking to create a repair or a recovery disk and it should also state something along the lines of Compaq System Backu or something?

under hp advisor it has reminder 1 next to that is says - system recovery - then when i click on it - it says

you pc contains a programe that creates a set of recovery discs for your system you will need these recovery discs to reinstall your op and software should you have a problem with your hard drive it is highly recommended you create these recovery discs now

i done the factory setting discs 2 weeks ago which took 3 discs to create then i created a system repair disc sepertly

not sure why i keep getting that reminder

ta for your help so far
  • Yeah you have created a recovery set of discs(3 I think) plus a Windows 7 repair disc
and ignore the nagging , it should have an option to stop it coming up automatically by looking here and look near the end preventing startup. If you do that you then can always start it by start/all programs/hewlett packard/hp advisor .

As an aside have you given further thought to your regular backups ? look back for 01-02-2010 6:50 PM
    Cheers

    i done that now

but if i already done the backups why does the machine give me a reminder? does the machine not know i've done the backups?

Good question not sure I can answer that one, it may just be a nag or it could be when you ran it you may not have clicked on finish/ok and closed down with the red X on the window. Pure speculation

I would still back up your system from Control Panel/Backup and restore say every 3 months (use 2 sets of R/W disks and rotate them) simply for the reason that the PC will not stay still for long there are Windows Updates and changes to other software that take place which in 1 or 2 years will take you a longer time to re-apply if you should have to restore back to factory state (hopefully this will not occur). It may also pay you to have a clean out every so often to get rid of some of the clutter which will accumulate during the life (long hopefully!) of your system.Of course I can be accused of being over cautious ;)

ok whats the best way for that

this is what i do every 2 weeks

    s&d scan
    ccleaner
    disc clean up
    disc defragment
    virus scan

anything else i need to do?

  • If you have any spare time you could do the same for my systems :D
You have been busy, as long as you update S&D you could possibly use Malwarebytes (and regulary update) at similiar intervals you have a fairly comprehensive arsenal of tools. One point to note if you have S&D on the system alongside your antivirus make sure Teatimer is not active go to Tools/Resident and uncheck the Teatimer box. if you use that and your a/v realtime they can get in each others way and also could cause performance problems.
