  • thanks for the help its a bit confusing for me but i think im understanding it slowly

ok the 1st priorirty was to do factory settings which i've done can you list what is my next priority

the discs i used today cannot be used for anything apart from re intaslling the machine back to its originale condition - am i right

the windows disc you suggest when i do that should i put that disc with the other 3 then put them away
Save the windows repair disk with the others I would suggest that is your 1st priority for now , and yes you are correct the others only restore to the factory settings.

It may be a good idea to think how often you are going to create new stuff on your laptop and then decide whether you need to back up weekly or monthly. For this you could use Windows backup or just copy the folders to a CD/DVD and think about many sets of backup you need to keep. I use a paid for backup program for mine but you don't need to think about for now.

Comodo Time Machine is the disaster recovery software that I use, you can download it from
http://www.comodo.com/home/data-storage-encryption/data-recovery.php or just go for a read up on it first. Totally free. But a warning if you are going to use it make sure that your PC is free of virus/malware etc. first. Recover from any virus, malware, rootkit in fact anything just by rebooting. Much easier and quicker than all this backing up and you can keep updating the base setup as time goes by, I update mine every month or so, hope this helps.
  • When you want to relax and forget about learning new things about your New Lappy and Win 7 have a look at the Wiki Backup for some thoughts :D

Also It would be wise to create a Windows repair disc
do you mean create a windows 7 disc

the other day when i done a factory setting disc - did it create a windows 7 within those discs?
  • Hello again , I was suggesting Control Panel > Backup and Restore ....on the left pane on there there is "Create a System Repair Disc" this will useful if you end up having "My Computer Wont work" type problems and end up asking for help here..
The factory repair discs will only be useful (usually) if you get in to problems that require full disk wipe.

Yes but it is the whole of your disk on there, the repair disk contains utilities to help to repair the system rather than restore the factory state
