Your wrong, read the posts before adding your smart !!!! input. I never said I expected the AA to let me join for the going rate and then rescue me inclusively, I merely enquired if anyone could suggest a way of me getting more for my £142.50.

But you headed the post "Rip Off" and also asked if there was a way you could cancel!

I haven't called out the breakdown service in 20 years, so you got a bargain in the big scheme of things.

Well done marlot, OP is clueless.

£142.50 for a call-out and ongoing membership and he calls it a rip-off.

Wasn't expecting to just pay £30 of course, I was simply asking if anyone knew of a way for me to get more for my £142.50

you could always breakdown again and get another call out and they might be able to fix it without needing any parts. thus you getting more from the AA.
    ...work permit granted!
  • I dont reckon it was too bad. At least they let you have a basic membership out of your £142. I've heard of recovery on a motorway costing much more than that just to get towed off.

Well, OP I guess you've learned the lesson that it is ESSENTIAL to have a least some form of breakdown cover.

RAC are good, but my first experience of the AA isnt so good at the moment...

Chalk another up to the "rip off in the title means there wasn't" theory

I used to be an 'AA' man - I used to frequent the local "Lovers' Lane" with my torch, knocking on the steamed-up windows of the cars parked down there. When the window was opened, I used to shine my torch in their face and say 'What's going on here then, eh eh?'

But you didn't charge £142.50 for that, did you?

Unfortunately this is the way the breakdown industry works. If you're not a member they will take advantage. They know nobody will be phoning around different places getting quotes whilst sat on the M6 hard shoulder in English weather, they know people will pay whatever they decide to charge.
