Anyone swopped from BT to Primus?

I'm thinking of doing it for no other reason than to save money, I've never had a problem with BT I must admit. I'm in two minds though as I'm half of the opinion 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' or 'better the devil you know' depending on how you look at it. ;) It's only a couple of quid per month savings, is that worth it for the risk of swopping to the unknown (and being tied into a contract with them for 12 months).

Not if you are considering Primus line rental - Primus Saver for free evening and calls yes.

Sorry you've lost me!? Doesn't take much :o

It was the 'Primus, £9.15/month, free evening & weekend calls to landlines' deal I was thinking of. I thought that for £9.15 per month that was your line rental and free weekend/evening calls? Then daytime calls are 3p per min (as oppose to BT's being 5.4p).

Primus Saver CPS offers the same call cost benefits for a subscription of £0.00/month without the need to transfer line rental.

OTOH, who pays even 3p/minute for weekday daytime calls? Those on here whose calls pattern does not justify an 'Anytime' calls plan pay 5p per call (regardless of duration) using 18185.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I have several calls on Primus that cost less than 5p so 18185 would be a gamble with my call pattern. 0845 is cheaper with Primus, 20p for 6min 25 at peak time. I have speed dial buttons on my main phone with 1280 programmed on one which makes it easy, speed dial + number or even memory. I might sit down and do a complete call analysis to see if 18185 would pay but as my bill is normally less than £1 per month it probably isn't worth it ;)

I use BT for the few 0845 calls I make because their per-minute rate (2p weekdays, ½p weekday evenings, inclusive at weekends) is cheaper than Primus and 18185.

Primus's call set-up fee tips the balance in their favour for short weekday 0845 calls - but how can you tell?

Since Primus moved their Customer Service from Scotland to India, their Customer service leaves a lot to be desired.

i have to disagree , i have been a primus bb and evening and w/e calls user for 3 years with no real problems , when martin highlighted the cheaper line rental i took a look with a view to upgrading bb as well - l/r + 8mb unlimited bb for around £23 p/m . i was paying around £32 before with bt line rental .
my switchover has been trouble free , i have not had to do any chasing , although tbh i have just left them to get on with it , they have phoned me on several occaisions just to check everything is ok , including today - sunday to let me know that my bb will be upgraded this week . i asked bt if they had a package to match this offer , it took 2-3 weeks to get an answer , which was no - my local exchange is not unbundled so i can't get any of the cheaper options with talk talk or similar

people are hardly going to complain that their bills have been paid on time , i can only go by my experiance which has been good . you will probably find that those who have something negative to say will be more than those that have no issues
  • I havent heard of Primus, but i swapped to a company called lotus telecom about October last year and i get line rental, broadband and all my calls for just over £20 a month. I think it pretty good, and i have finally got my bills to be about the same each month , which with my lot a home can be a problem. lol
They say that their line rental is just £5.62 and as far as i can see they do what they say.
Worth a look if your looking for an alternative, they also have UK based call centres etc. which for me is a huge bonus!
