Prague Accomodation

Cheers I have now sorted out accomodation in Prague (i spent far too long searching) and as a group we changed our mind a fair few times. We found a lush apartment with flatscreen TV and more than what we need for only 4400CZK for 7 people per night.
But then we went for an apartment for 2960CZK for an apartment for 8 people, in a hostel, it is adequate for what our needs and dirt cheap :P
So all in we are going to prague for £154.50 per person, inc flights, accom and transfers to and from the airport.
So prague here we come :P

I'll prob get 5000CZK before I go out there, but which place gives the best exchange rate, as I have heard in some touristy locations they do seem to give you a bad deal, oh and do they charge you comission over there?Student Moneysaving Expert :beer:0 -
No - one?
Please answer the last few questions would help me greatly :P

Sorry for delay!
I too am a starving uni student, but was given expenses out there, so didn't need to actually change any money, but was always on the lookout for good deals! Around the main squares (old town and wenceslas) there were lots of bureau's which all claimed to offer comission free, and were all around 44CZK to the £ whilst I was there. The exchange rate I got here for the bit I did take was around 39CZK, so not a great deal of dfference but it all adds up!
Depending on how much you drink, you may find that you don't need much more than you are taking (less than a £ a pint!) and the recommendation I was given by the Czech people I know out there was that if you pay more than 150CZK for a proper Czech meal then you're being ripped off! I found that maybe 300CZK was more likely!
Plus there are hot dog stands on Wenceslas square which sell rather giant hot dogs for about a quid each, and were often surrounded by groups of english people, a treat not to be missed!0 -
BJT thanks a lot, that was a great help.
I managed to get an exchange rate of 39.77 over here as i need some to take over there for a transfer etc. But the 39.77 was from an independant place, the rest of the places offered 35-38
Quick question in prague, to change your money did you pay using english cash (i.e notes etc)
I really can't wait to go, tho i think it is going to be pretty hot if this weather continues into september !

I didn't actually change any money while I was out there, I was given expenses by the place I was working at, so was handed a great wad of cash when I arrived!
Any other foreign exchange I've used 've used English notes, but they make not take things like fivers.
When I was there in June the night temperature was around 22 degrees, and they expect that for most of the summer, so it should be lovely and you should have a great time!0 -
We stayed at the Hilton because they were doing fantastic internet deals at the time. May be worth a look.
Transport is excellent. At the airport, go to the DPP kiosk in arrivals (opposite and to the right of where you come out into arrivals hall) and get a free DPP map and a 3 or 7 day ticket. 3 day is 220kr, 7 day is 280kr. This ticket will cover everything, including transfer from the airport.
Get the 119 bus from the airport to Devicka metro, the end of the line. Then use the map to get to where you need to be. Don't forget to validate ticket when you get on the bus - you only need to do it once.
Best way round is metro for the longer parts, then the trams to connect to where you need to be. Metros and trams are all very frequent. Use the 22 tram for a trip around the city, including getting to the castle. Your ticket even includes the funicular at Petrin.
One word of warning - beware the Roma gypsies on the metro. They are career thieves and will try to distract you and pick your pocket. They are easy to spot - greasy, grubby and loud. The police do give them a hard time, fortunately.0 -
On the note of Prague accommodation - i wonder if anyone can offer any advice.
A group of 8 of us are going end of October - we have cheap flights and need cheap accommodation. Looking for a central hostel/very cheap hotel, preferably one that can give us an 8-person room, if not then two fours.
I have found an apparently ideal hostel, but it is one that doesnt appear on the majority of hostel websites (e.g. hostelworld, hostelbookers, hostels.com etc.) - Is only found on one czech website. it is the Abacus hostel, Nerudova 12, Praha 1. I cant find any reviews on the web.
Wonder if buy a long shot anyone has ever stayed there, if not any experience of booking through such a site as prague-spot.com??
I'm wary as it has so little web exposure and that is unusal for hostels.
Thanks in advance.0 -

Hey I was at Prague last year in a group of ten (stag party)
We stayed here:
https://www.avalonprague.com
It worked out less than £40 each and the accomodation was superb. Right in Wencelav Square where the main pub scene is. I would recommend here with out question. It also offers smaller apartments but I am unsure about the costs.

Thanks Peter,
however, the link doesnt seem to work and a quick search doesnt bring up any mention of Avon prague - any ideas?
Thansk again0
