Prague Accomodation

Hi all, I have looked over this forum and the whole site with recommendations regarding suitable accomodation in Prague.
My situation is as follows :
I have flights booked for the 13th coming back on 18th September.
I am looking for accomodation in the form of a cheap apartment or private rooms within prague, as near to the centre as possible, either near Old or New town would be great.
I have found some locations, Andel looks a very nice place but a tad pricey. I have also seen Belehradska which looks nice, and also krasova and ondrickova which looks a bit far away, and they also seem to be near the station which is where one hostel i was looking at (Hostel Vesta) but i found out it is in a bit of a rough area.
Can any of you recommend me any good areas of Prague to stay, that are nice (safish) areas, but within walking distance of most attractions etc.
I ideally don't want to spend more than £10 per person per night on this, and it is looking that I will have to spend about £14 pppn
I am looking for an apartment (ideally) - or two to house 7 people, for the 5 nights.
Any help much appreciated
Cheers
Ian
Links, guidance, pointers would all be very welcome :P

Also how much are trams in Prague?
And do they still use krona (CZK), or do we now have to use EUR? all these prices in 3 different currencies confuse me.
A lot to answer there but everything is appreciated with a thanks

Also, where is the best place to get CZK ? Here or in Prague, if in prague where are the best places to get good rates, and how do they change the money? On your credit / debit card ?
Do they accept Maestro over there?
Cheers

I stayed in the Andel suites and can say that they are excellent.
The area is very nice, safe and clean with good shops/restaurants/bars and a short tram/metro journey to all locations.0 -
Thats awesome, we have just booked an apartemnt just 500m south of andel, and well is pretty cheap for all of us, so should be good :P
glad everything is booked
anyone know about getting CZK etc?
i have looked through the forums and some of the things i fear are a bit out of date :S

I've just come back from spending 5 weeks working in Prague, and the exchange rate seemed much better out there than it is here. (Around 43CZK to the £, as opposed to around 39CZK here, although if it's a question of safety or anything then I'm not sure, but exchange rate-wise you get a better rate out there) Although if you have any left over, it is better to bring it home and exchange it here.
The metro system is pretty cheap, 20CZK for a ticket that encompases all 3 lines and trams and lasts for about 75 minutes during peak time and 90 off peak (I think!) and it's around 80CZK for a days ticket.
All the metro lines are fast and reliable, and by far, I found, the best way to get around in the city. Even if you stay a little way out (i stayed near the last metro stop on one line) , it only takes about 15 minutes to get to the centre!

I'd recommend doing a search on https://www.venere.com - really helpful website with lots of good maps/reviews, and reasonable prices too (which you also don't have to pay in advance!)
Plus for 4% off, use code: BK5HX8W
Hope that helps0
