Got to agree with pendulum on this one. Maybe if it was a high value jumper then fair enough. If its been worn and washed several times then you probably had your £6 worth.
Wearing and washing damages clothes, simple.

Take it as a learning curve and dont buy form ASDA again.

If I had looked up on a website before hand and seen that the store has the right to deduct some money off for the wear I had from it then fair enough, but this wasn't explained to me by any of the staff. Just said it had gone into the sale so I can only give you the sale price back.

No I won't buy from asda again, I've got clothes from primark that were cheap and they've lasted after more than several washes and uses.

Did you have a receipt/proof of purchase and present it?

How come didn't you notice the difference in the arm lengths before? If you had worn it surely you could tell? Personally after a few months of wear out of a £6 jumper that I had already been wearing anyway, I wouldn't have bothered.

On another note, isn't it funny how when a poster asks something and the answers aren't quite what they'd like to hear, suddenly the staff are rude and incompetent? :(

I can't believe some of the replies I am getting here.......

The sleeves seemed fine to me until the last couple of times I wore it when it seemed uncomfortable to wear. I then realised there was a problem with the sleeves.

Why shouldn't I not bother about it? It may have only been £6 but I can't wear it anymore.

The answer was what I wanted to hear, the staff were not "suddenly" rude and incompetent at all. Infact I stated they were unhelpful on my first post, and never mentioned rude or incompetent they were your words!

    Hello TomandBarbara

I don't want to appear rude, but do you think it may have been possible that it was the washing of the top that may have altered the sleeves in some way (especially seeing as you have said that it seemed fine to you at first).
Personally, I think it is extremely fair that they gave you £3.
However, if you had kept it, you could have just trimmed the sleeves off and made it into a vest! ;)

  • I was most definitely not rude (I despise rude people there is no need for it) and I didn't misquote anything.

Do you work in shops yourself Pendulum? I just wondered why you think I sound like a "nightmare" customer!?

I'd say because you're quoting SOGA over a £6 jumper.

It's not the replies, they're perfectly reasonable. It's the fact that you aren't getting everyone to have the same opinion as you.
  • ok this is my last post on this subject.....I didn't quote SOGA for definite I just said "surely" with a question mark.
The replies regarding the law are fine, I am perfectly happy with the refund now I know what the law is. I'm not looking to change peoples opinions, where did this come from!? But I've been quoted incorrectly and called a nightmare customer which is unfair.

As the jumper was fit for purpose when you purchased it then it may have been the washing that caused the problems.

You called the staff "unhelpful" and "unprofessional" after you had told the staff to refund your money. Your words not mine! My observation was a general one and not just directed at you personally.

After a few months of wear and washing you are not entitled to a full refund and the £3 is very fair and within the law. Having worked for a large store (not Asda) I can tell you that an ordinary sales assistant is not given an exam in SOGA before they are launched onto the sales floor despite what you expect from them. Hence your particular sales assistant acted professionally in asking for a manager to assist and the matter was resolved in accordance with SOGA.

Personally i would have just accepted the refund and put it down to just one of those things, when you buy something cheap you can sort of expect a few problems with it,had it have been a quality £50-£70.00 jumper then you would have been quite reasonable to complain and ask for a refund or a replacement.

It only cost you six pounds,i would just accept it and move on.Invest in a better one iin future you are almost guarenteed to get better wear out of them.

    Good luck.

At what price do you believe SOGA starts applying, i was under the impression it was at any value. Obviously you know different.

OP, as they had more in stock, could you not have had a replacement instead?
It's not the replies, they're perfectly reasonable. It's the fact that you aren't getting everyone to have the same opinion as you.

The OP happily accepted the opinions given (refer to post #3). I think it was the fact people branded her as rude even though she was well within her rights (remember that they werent going to do anything at all until she pressed the matter further).
