Vodaphone reception - Iphone

I have had numerous phones with Vodaphone, all with great reception. Now I have the iPhone this has now completely changed.

The reception is AWFUL.

My cheapy old phone was better than this.

Yeah, the iPhone is good at a lot of things but picking up a decent signal is not one of them.

Well then its going back. Its ridiculous, I'm not having a phone just for gadgets I want to actually talk to people

All versions of the iPhones (3G and 3Gs) are like this. Apple crammed too much in and neglected the most important feature! You can cancel the contract under the 14 day no coverage policy though and try another network though.

Just take the phone into the nearest Apple store - better if you book an appointment beforehand. They will check it over, and replace it on the spot if there is a problem, and it sounds as if there is.

I got an iphone 3gs about 2 weeks ago and reception is fine in my new flat but when i went home to my parents where i lived up until a couple of months ago i only got reception in one part of the house, but with my old n96 i got reception everywhere in the house. From my finding it seems to be a problem with all iphones

The antenna is at the bottom. Holding it 'naturally' covering the bottom decreases the ability to pick up a signal - you can see this yourself if you pick it up and put your hand round the bottom. Hold it at the sides and see if it's better.

Yes, I know, you shouldn't have to do this.
