Thanks for the advice- maybe I was being a bit mean. I've had another look and gone for the opera toaster too. I think she'll like them. She also needs a hoover as she has to use one of them carpet sweepers at the minute but I think that can wait till Christmas

:rotfl: EVIL!!! EVIL I tell you!!!!!!!!
Just remember your actions when you come home to an empty house one day and a note to tell you shes left you and gone off with the window cleaner (who, incidentally, would never dream of buying her an iron and toaster for her birthday!) ;)

On average, what is the cost of producing one loaf in these machines?
    Thanks!!

A basic white loaf (1.5lb) would come in at approx 30p plus leccy (no idea how much leccy it would use). The important thing to remember is that you can't compare this bread with the 30p loaves you can get in the shops. If you get a breadmaker you will truly discover what I mean here. Well recommended....

    Ingredients:

    Water - free (ish)!
    Dried milk (2.5 tablespoons) 3p?
    Salt (1.25 TEAspoons) 1p?
    Sugar (2.5 tablespoons) 2p?
    Butter/margarine (2.5 tablespoons) 1p?
Flour (one 51p Tesco flour bag does 3.5 loaves) 15p?
Yeast (1.25 TEAspoons). Pack of 6 Hovis sachets for 47p makes 10 loaves. 4.7P?

    Convinced yet? :D
I spelt my username wrongly on purpose, by the way!

I would say it would cost quite a bit more than 1p for butter.I make dough using ours for bread rolls and it's a tablespoon that has to be metled down.Get one of them smallish tubs which cost, what 50p and that doesn't go very far;)

I was on the Morphy Richards site today and noticed they have massive price reductions on lots of kitchen appliances.

Comfigrip Safety switch off Iron was£49.99 down to £13.03

thanks for that...got the iron...mine has seen better days... through lack of use I have just been told.

PS got an Aldi Breadmaker a couple of years ago now and once you get use to using it...and keeping up with ingredients...piece of cake really...;)

I'm a bloke and had never baked anything in my life before we got the breadmaker. I am now the master baker (careful how you say that! :D) in our house, tend to bake at least one loaf a day (sometimes 2!), use the cheapest Tesco baking flour (51p per packet) and can honestly say we will NEVER go back to shop bought bread! Incidentally, our breadmaker is a Morphy Richards (though not this model), bought it several years ago (for waaayyy more than £18!!) and it has had a lot of use and we've never had an ounce of trouble from it. £18.80 delivered for the breadmaker HAS to be a steal. In fact, I'm tempted to order one for when this machine finally leaves this mortal coil...

I am a bloke too! I was having doubts if I would use it but you have given me encouragement and I will definitely have a go. I only like fresh baked bread and always have to drive down to my local so this could save me few trips a week.

I don't understand- she's quite happy with things as they are- and she cleans the windows herself (it can be a bit tricky getting up the ladder with her limp but she does a good job). Last Christmas I bought her an ironing board and a frying pan (took some wrapping up) and she was surprised and delighted when she opened them.
Just because you used to be you think everybody else is, don't you?
