cat d - insurance issues
bought my mini d from private seller .. at the time they produced a hpi.. though that was when they bought it..
bought the car and all fine done 10 k on it -great
we put it for sale as buying house soon and many people on ebay but none was willing to come and have a loook .
Someone came and left me a small deposit 150 quid to bring the 4850 on friday(today) but when they came today they said the hpi says its a category d and direct line wouldnt insure it..unless they get a rac check for 180 quid. a very basic check needed just to see iof the car is ok
I felt that they were trying it on for lower price as had it for sale for 5500 so being a man i said ''here you go your deposit back '' and good luck.
they offered to pay 4900 but i said i would better keep the car as its gone all over europe without missing a tick, passed my wifes test having all the abuse from her as a learner etc. they rang twice but i felt they f-ing timewasters who look to buy a 8 year old car and think it shouldnt have a single scratch, and they were complaining of the mark the l-plate had left ...''we need to repaint the whole boot they said !!
!!!!!! half of the cars i presume got a scratch and a hit and should be classed all as category d.
what worries me is that i may not be insured since i havent told direct line that is category d damaged...... i only learned it myself today.!
is it the rac that does that search

I'm not sure what your question / point is?0

Almost 3 hours, 32 views and no one replied! Wonder why?
Maybethey xxing timewastersxxx half
Now you upset because some does the check and on strength of it decides to make an offer, obviously a time waster calling you twice with an offer.
Anyway after all that you did ask a questionis it the rac that does that search
Halfway down page it says:o Category
Vehicle damaged and insurer has decided not to repair. When fixed can be re-registered as damaged repaired.0 -
not surprised he made you an offer. you'll be very lucky to sell the car at full market value if cat d. A lot of people won't want it so if someone offers a decent amount then bite their hand off.0
-
You will never get full market value for a cat D car, if you beleive £5500 is the full market value and hes offering you £4900 you should snap his hand off.
As for insurance, some insurers don't care if its cat D as long as it has had an MOT since it was registered as cat D other insurers can be a bit more picky. Remember as with selling it if you were to have a total loss as its Cat D you would only receive around 80-90% of its true market value.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
A lot of cars have a hidden past. I saw a lovely 2000 3dr Astra SRi 2.0 today at a dealership. Was priced just right. Had half the average mileage of a car that age.
Anyway, quick online check revealed:
- The car had numerous plate changes throughout its life.
- The car had been subject to a Vehicle Identity Check.
- The car was a category C write-off.
Not a bloody chance!0 -
Duh... they've just found out your cars a cat D and you're surprised they're coming in with a lower offer? You do know cat Ds are worth less right? You should have accepted.0

i think i was a bit soft to them, as when i looked to buy a mini, the owners would dismis you even if i offered 150 quid less than the asking price.
it was bought in june last year for £5900 , i done some fixings to it that it needed.
I am not looking in anyway to recover the costs or get the full market value... but its a diesel one and they sell.
And yes this one sold today at 9 pm at 5000 quid as 2 people who vere interesed previously , saw the add coming on internet again and called.
the timewasters, acused me of being a liar etc.. all i wanted it to sell as due to my work, i can assist with viewings during day time and had described the car to my best knowledge .
Dont think i should bite someones hand of in order to sell.. i let them drive half hour, they had the coffe and quite bit discount from asking price and as everybody knows ''sold as seen '' i removed my car from ebay etc for a mere 150 quid deposit and rest to be paid after 5 days which now i regret .
text from the ones who wanted rac inspection '' can we resume negotiations for the mini ? can we go half way on that inspection cost ?''
.....i ll be pleased to tell them to keep dreaming
thanks for your input guys anyway... my main worry was the thing that i may not have been covered since i hadnt told insurance company was cat d.
and sorry for f-word - it was as i was upset.
i still retain the right to call them timewasters though0 -
You paid £5900 for a Mini diesel...?0
-
Sorry but if your car is a cat d write off, it halves the value of the car.
I had a car a few years ago, before I bought it, I took it to garage for pre-sales check and (wrongly) presumed that included HPI check - it didnt! After 2 years of owning, when I took it to dealer to part-ex it, they gave me the news it was a cat d write off and of course, would not accept it.
I ended up selling the car for half its market value privately (no garage will accept) and made it very clear it was a write off. The buyers were not time wasters, they have found history out about the car which makes it hard to insure. When I told my insurance co - they added money to my premium due to its cat d status. I would not be surprised if your insurance is invalidated even if you were unaware of its status - you would only have found that out if you had crashed. Luckily for you, it seems you havent. Therefore, the question is surely irrelevant.
Oh and they are not timewasters - I would never buy another car again that had been written off due to problems you have when selling. I always had a problem with the suspension but no one could ever work out why - when we found out it had been in a crash, it was pretty obvious.0 -

well they still selling for 5900 or so..
we not all in to fast cars you see, besides, i went abroad last year and on motorway some 700 miles per tank..which beats the mini one petrol/cooper/cooper s to death!
120 quid tax
category 4 insurance..
400 quid fully com for me as first driver and my wife as a learner
so whats wrong with a diesel you tell me.
When i bought, i couldnt find many as they were flying as soon as they came for sale....like mine..one didnt buy it, next day sold !0
