    No, I was just suggesting that the OP does what almost everybody else does when their washing machine plays up, get an engineer to fix it.:D

    What a good idea no wrong advice from a forum with that opition.

    Then the OP can start a new thread if he thinks he was overcharged.

    I don't know about diagnosing using flashing lights but I do know that my first (and definitely my last) Zanussi washing machine failed to start when that heater had failed (inside the warranty).

    My wife watched the engineer remove the old heater and from her description I thought it had clogged with limescale so I told her to use Calgon. It failed again in exactly the same way outside warranty so I checked the heater with a meter and confirmed it was open circuit. When I replaced it I found that the cause was (imo) a design fault - there was only a tiny gap between the heating element and its housing and this had clogged up with undissolved washing powder. The next fault was when the rear of the drum started leaking because water had eaten a hole in it. It seems that they don't have hard water on planet Zanussi.
