Zanussi washing machine wont start

I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask
I have a zanussi washing machine aquacycle FLE 1416 W wont start
programs as usual but light above the start/pause button keeps flashing and nothing happens
I tried emptying the machine in case I'd overloaded it but that didn't help.
I'm afraid to call someone out incase I end up paying an arm and a leg
Can anyone knowledgeable about this please advise
thanks

Is it just the light above the Start/Pause button that is flashing, or is any other indicator lit or flashing?

According to the user manual the combination of lights should give an indication of where the fault condition is.

All the programming lights come on and change when buttons are pressed as they should do with normal programming.
Its during and after setting chosen programs that the start/pause light flashes.
Its the only one that flashes and when I push the start/pause button to start the program nothing happens

So it doesn't seem to be indicating a fault condition as such.

Obviously these appliances are complex and difficult to diagnose remotely, but one thing that matches your description (so far) is that the start/pause switch is faulty.

That would be fairly easy to test if you are willing to open it up, and the part should not be expensive - it may even be a generic part.

    1. Turn it off at the mains and leave it for 30 minutes - Turn on & try again
    2. Empty the filter and make sure the pump/padle isn;t jammed with anything - If it is clean it out and try again.
    3. Check the outflow drain pipe isn't blocked or all gunked up. This can be tricky but pull the washing machine out and check there isn;t a load of brown gunge in the outlet pipe. Washing machines have an auto cutoff if the outlet is blocked and it can stop the programme starting sometimes. If it is all gunged up you will have to try and clean it out which can be tricky but it can be done with some imagination.

I always fix my own washing machines and stuff like that but sometimes you just have to call someone.

I have a different model, which occasionally does this. As a rule I use the same programme, and don't reset the machine, just switch off. When I have this problem it's usually the temperature setting which somehow disappears, when I reset and reprogramme it's cleared the problem. Of course I can't get it to do it now I want it to, but I know I spent ages trying various things when it first happened.

We have a Zanussi washing machine near the back door in our kitchen, which we got secondhand off the seller when we bought our house (ie no warranty). Last Jan, it stopped working. In the end, we left it switched off for approx 3 weeks while we waited for some money to come thro to buy a new one. just before we chucked it out, DH switched it back on again and it has worked ever since. Maybe the electrics got damp and needed to dry out? We never got anyone to look at it.

If the door switch/lock is broke or damaged the machine wont run. Will fault before filling with water for obvious reasons.
