If it was a techinal fault and pc world are playing take it up with advent as it is their machine that is faultly and you may have better luck with them. It is them that should provide a manufacters (probably spelt wrong) warrenty for the laptop so they should do something about it.

Stick to PC World. It is THEIR responsibility. The contract you have is with the RETAILER no matter what they say about the manufacturer's warranty.
  • I think you have gone about things the wrong way.

Your new pc was randomly rebooting unless you know what your doing 95% of people would have contacted the supplier or support that comes with the system. instead you took it upon yourself to replace a less than 1 month old hard drive, why? doing that is likley to invalidate your warrenty especially if there were seals on the case. .

I didnt replace the hard drive - there was room for a second one to plug in. There were no seals on the back so I can not see they can tell i have even been in there to be honest.

With looking inside the PC voiding warrenties I really don't understand how there can say that as PC's are there to be upgraded and somethimes a quick look inside can solve a problem such as a loose connection.

Yeah fine if you are taking precautions like the use of a grounding strap when handling sensitive RAM chips.

Having just had a problem with my 9 month old laptop from PC world the answer is this
    CALL PC SERVICES on 0870 901 3000
go through the automated answers eg first time call, under a year old etc
Problem with new PC then get through to advent,

Explain the problem they will decide to either recall the pc or not if they recall the pc a box will arrive from the courier then they will collect the pc and send it off for repair

PC world have stated that if the pc does not return within 28 days of making the call you can go into the store and get a new pc for the original value,

however if your pc is less than 28 days old take it back to the store dump it on the counter and create havoc until they sort out your problem

Maybe I missunderstood your inital post
My solution was to buy a new hard drive, install windows on that and use original hard drive as a data only drive.
This plan went wrong when windows would not install on the new hard drive, it keeps coming up with a blue screen error or resetting still.

PC manufactures put seals on their equipment to deter people from openining them up and changing things silicone on conectors ect so they can tell if anything has been changed and they know if it isnt origianal equipment ther is nothing stopping me buying a pc removing the hard drive and putting a faulty drive in its place and returning it as faulty I get a new drive and they repair the pc.
