AOL- very rude customer service, anybody else had this?

My AOL was due to expire at the end of last year, a girl called me up asking if I would like to stay and the best she could do was £24.99 a month and she guaranteed me I will not get it cheaper anywhere else. Everytime I tried to talk she would talk over me, kept telling her it was rude to talk while someone else was talking. She never apologised but yet kept doing it. In the end I hung up and called back and spoke to someone who was very nice and kept apologising. He said he didnt know why I was given a figure of £24.99 and that he could give me it for £14.99 and 3 months free! To which I agreed!
So January, february and march should of been free and not getting charged till April!
Yesterday £17.99 came out my bank, my previous monthly amount was £16.99!
Called up just now to ask what was going on, to be greeted with yet another rude member of staff! She said she would add it as a credit to my account, said I would rather have the money back as I didnt authorise it to come out my account. She kept saying she cant do that just add it as a credit. Told her it was nonsence and if I went to my bank they would give me it back straight away through the direct debit guarantee, she then told me she could give me it back but it will take 28 days to reach my account! Everytime I then tried to talk she would constantly talk over me, I got to the point of actually shouting at her asking for a manager and she was still talking!
Eventually spoke to a manager and he apologised, told him I am very unhappy with the service of the staff, not once but twice.
I am not racist in anyway at all but both of these were foreign but the 2 british people I spoke to were very helpful! Funny that eh ;)

    Hi,

is this £6.99 that you pay just for broadband or is it part of a package.

i pay £6.99 a month for broadband silver. I have aol talk which is a separate fee for phone calls. I got the £6.99 deal by ringing up and asking for mac code saying I was going to sky broadband instead. hth

Remarkable, considering they don't have a single call centre in the UK.

You've got a good deal. I started off on Silver and was paying approx £17.99. They reduced it to £12.99 last year when I told them I was thinking of moving to SKY (the truth). My contract expires at the end of March and really am considering moving for real because I've just upgraded to AOL9.1 and had a horrendous weekend with so many problems.

What version of Windows are you using?

The problem I faced with cancelling AOL is that you are dealing with an anonymous person who is based 'somewhere' and are reading from a script. Therefore they do not listen to any personal queries you have, but just keep repeating stuff like a parrot.

When I cancelled my details over the phone, I received no apology having explained about the bad service, I then asked about getting proof of cancelling to be 'assured' it was on their screen. I pointed out that that was no use to me, but the man kept insisting it 'wasnt their policy' to send out details of cancellations by email or letter.

Then after pushing for 10-15 minutes he said he would.

    Very very frustrating

Windows XP. It's really ironic but after deciding to leave AOL it's been pretty good today.
