Richie - at 58dB attenuation, you may see an improved sync and throughput of around 300 kb/sec on adsl2+, provided your line is of good quality, however because of the higher frequencies used for adsl2+ you may not realise this, and could (worst-case) be slightly worse off.....your call....

rmg - will look at yours in a min....

grasscutter - I was not trying to put down the info you provided, but the kitz speed calculator is based on inernode's graph (that's the one I was looking for last night, btw), and hence is generally regarded as being pretty accurate. I suppose it depends what you call an increase, but as said, on my 48dB line, it's an extra 750kb/sec, 3.5km from the exchange....when you only get 4.5 Meg, that's a good increase ;)

Hi guys - apologies for jumping in one this one, but can someone check these stats for me?
    Configured Current
    Line Status --- SHOWTIME
    Link Type --- Fast Path

    Stream Type
    Actual Data Rate
    Up Stream Down Stream
    448 (Kbps.) 5024 (Kbps.)

    Operation Data
    Upstream Downstream
Noise Margin 12 dB 24 dB
    Attenuation 91 dB --- dB

Don't know what any of it means, but any comments would be appreciated.
How do I find out how far I am away from the exchange?

    ::edit::
I'm with Tiscali on LLU if it helps.

I too am with tiscali on LLU exchange........

I think your attenuation figures are being reported wrong, at that sync you should have a downstream attn of 48-49dB (same as mine-ish), so on adsl2+ you could see a similar improvement to me :)

The incorrect reporting suggests some incompatability between the dslam in your exchange and your particular router......not a fault as such, but an annoyance. If you have a different make of router to try (with a different chipset in it) it may well solve this niggle...

HOWEVER....tiscali (now tt) have no plans to offer adsl2+ on their LLU service, unless you get migrated onto a talktalk dslam as part of the rationalisation program following the tt takeover...same boat as me on that one :(

Thanks for that - I do (apparently) have a firmware update available.
    Is it worth installing it?

    It's a Belkin - can't remember the model number.
I've got firmware version 7.0.23 and I can update to 7.0.24

Probably worth doing the update, then try grabbing your stats again :)

It looks like you have been put on a 2Mbps fixed speed profile.

With 58dB attenuation ADSL2+ is unlikely to bring you any significant improvement. If your connection is currently stable (ie doesn't drop out from time to time) then my advice would be to leave well alone.

Every once ina while, I have to reboot the router. I had a visit from someone claiming to be from TT who said they'd now finished doing things to the line and it seems to have been fine since.
Is it still worth doing the upgrade?
