daft question about sausages

  • I like the Sainsbury's taste the difference ultimate sausages. They are made from outdoor reared pork and contain 95% pork. They are usually aropund £2 for a pack of 6, but because they are more meaty than other sausages they are more filling and we only have 2 each with pots/chips and veg rather than 3 or 4 cheaper ones, so they are not as expensive as they might seem.
I also like the Debbie and Andrews ones - Tesco often have them on offer.

I'd avoid the Richmond sausages - they have only 41% meat and at least 10% lard.

Do you want to know what goes into cheap sausages?

Go for quality with mince & sausages - all meat if you care about what you're eating.
  • sadly the nice sausages are the higher priced ones. I get my sausages from Biggles Sausage shop in London. They are well worth every penny, most of them are sugar and gluten free. The lamb ones are to die for :D
*wonders when they will make dressing gowns acceptable day wear?*

  • I usually buy sausages from our local butcher but if I do see any offers in supermarkets I always look for meat content, nothing under 90% meat will do. If these are on offer I will buy a few packets and freeze, I do like a good sausage.

Why not just buy a pound of minced pork? 100% meat content I believe.

Porky Whites from Tesco and Sainsbury's are absolutely delicious. I can't stand over seasoned sausages (don't get me started on all this added herb malarkey) and these really are the best I've tasted in a loooong time.

Support your local butcher if you can. That in turn supports British farmers and gives you a better quality IMO....

We can't buy cheap sausages as hubby is a coeliac, so our faves are eith Black farmers or Waitrose's chipolatas
  • If you have a costco near you, they have fab sausages - british, over 85% meat (most over 90%), 18 for £4.

    And absolutely yummy :):):)
