hi
i have posted this on the insurance forum but not had any joy with response so am asking here.....
we have been with first direct for a good few years and have been very happy with them. we joined their first directory scheme but have never really used it, however this year we are a little skint.
has anyone ever claimed on their travel insurance with first directory? how efficient was it?
we have been skiing for the past 6 years and always had an annual policy with direct travel. we did have to claim at one stage when my daughter broke her arm and they were fab, however, this year we are trying to save so have dug out our first directory card and thought we may as well use the travel insurance that comes with that so i am curious to know any good or bad points about them.
i find it strange that they don't take any details whatsoever and your family is still covered.
the insurance is with aviva by the way

Hi Hannah
A colleague in work had to claim on it when he went to Thailand. He said they were very efficient and had no problems at all.0 -
Whilst on the subject of the First Directory packaged account, has anyone had any dealings with Mondial (the company that provide the car breakdown cover)? I was tempted by the three months free offer currently running - but upon reading the terms and conditions of the breakdown policy it seems quite poor and not good value.
Also, has anyone used the so called leisure/restaurant deals - cannot find much information on it!0 -

Right let me update you here!!
I have until NOW been a massive fan of First Direct.
I called today to register my mobile for the insurance. Now I have only left it this long as after calling them on week 1, 2 and 3 they tell me First Direct has still not updated them that I have a policy!!
Then when I give the iPhone IMEI number I am told that we don't insure the iPhone!!
I can First Direct tonight to question this and am told that yes it's in the Ts&Cs. What Ts&Cs i ask. The ones yo read on the website when you joined.
This is where I got MAD. When I took the First Directory Online the site crashed. I called them 3 to 4 times following it telling them and telling them that I didn't even know if the subscription went through. I was told yes and that they would send the small print in paper form in the post. I received it 3 weeks later!!!
Now they tell me tonight it is my fault and it's tough I am stuck with it!
They obviously don't know what lengths I will go to to correct this. They have p1ssed off the wrong person/customer this time.
Fair play if I had access to the terms etc when I took it. But to say tough when their site failed, they got a mighty fight on their hands her.
NOT TO MENTION I WILL BE MOVING MY BANKING AWAY FROM THEM THIS WEEK AFTER ONLY A MONTH. WELL DONE FD, FIRST CLASS SERVICE!!!!0 -
Thanks for the replies. Its interesting to note they will change tyres, as the terms and conditions of the FD policy (and HSBC) state they will not do it! So that's a plus.
Shame about your experiences Stella. Who will you bank with now?0 -

I hope that they have not made any cut backs to the service in the fifteen months since I had the trye changed. Just to clarify things they put the spare tyre on and did not provide me with one. Sorry if my submission was slightly misleading.Money is the headache, money is the cure!0 -

If I wasn't able to read the T&Cs I wouldn't have continued at this point.
I seem to recall that FD only insure phones to the value of £300 and this excludes the Iphone and other expensive PDA type handsets. I believe that Lloyd TSB's insurance has a similar restriction.
First Directory isn't worth it's money anyway!Whilst my posts do not constitute financial advice, I am always, without fail, 100% right!0 -
my iphone is covered on my Lloyds account, a friend lost his on the Silver acc and Lloyds gave him the cash to buy a new one, no quibble.:beer:0

Well the saga continues!!
I got a callback from FD today and they said they had listened to my calls where I had complained that the Ts & Cs had not been visible and I had not received the paper version. He then said I am more than happy to cancel the First Directory and I will do this now.
I agreed and went on my way.
THEN AND WAIT FOR IT!!!!
The wife comes home and goes crazy that I have cancelled it as she wants the breakdown cover and the worldwide travel insurance as we are all going to Egypt in a few months.
She calls them and tells them to re-instate it!!!!
CRAZY!!0
