i travel quite a lot and used flexicover which always came up as a cheap option on the comparison sites.... esp annual multitrip at around £30 per annum - guess it looks ok until you have to claim.... i recently had to make a claim for stolen bag and money etc in Cuba but they werent at all helpful. it took months to get £58 awarded to me despite losing £400+ of personal possessions...and the contact was poor too!
my cover was more for medical expenses as they can be astronomical but after my bad experience regarding a simple claim with supporting docs and police reports i shall nor be cutting those corners again... not for the sake of £25 more from Direct Line who offer airline bankruptsy protection and Swine Flu thingermybobs cover!!!
Like it wasnt bad enough being couped up in a Cuban Police station for hours!!!
im looking for more piece of mind now - and its a bit too late but not next time0 -
SIRJOHNNY - Experience educates don't you think? I am glad it was only a few hundred and not (as it could have been) a few hundred thousand in medical bills.
Direct Line is one of the better "common policies" from my experience and their service can be exceptional when "everything goes right" (as in the case of my friends wife's $140,000.00+ bill for her emergency surgery).
As I ALWAYS advise compare cover FIRST - then compare price! Never buy travel insurance (and I guess other insurance) on price alone, it is false economy to save a few quid then loose out when you have to make a claim.C. (Ex-Pat Brit)

Experience is great - like others I have had Flexicover for years but not claimed however now that I wish to - re ash delays they are not paying out - or explaining why not.
Go for one which is reliable.0 -
I have Flexicover too, and they are deciding for themselves that the volcano is a natural disaster. Funny, I don't see anyone dying in the UK from this natural disaster. I don't think ash in the air above the UK is a natural disaster for the UK.
I will never use Flexicover (or any insurance underwritten by Axa) ever again.0 -
Just noticed, on their website - proof they won't cover anything.
Travel disruption due to volcanic ash cloud
For customers who are currently stranded abroad no cover can be provided for additional accommodation or transport costs incurred abroad in connection with this event.
For customers who have not yet travelled - there is no cover for cancellation of your trip, any travel delay or missed departure due to the volcanic cloud. Our insurers have confirmed that the disruption caused by this event is not deemed ‘adverse weather’.
Whereas other insurers are calling the ash cloud 'adverse weather' *vomit* :P
