Why so many used cars with low mileage?
Comments
-
Best thing to do is ask where they have come from. I recently purchased an ex mobility car for the OH, 2 1/2 years old, showroom condition (mobility fix all faults before passing on) only 9000 miles.
At least you know these cars have been properly serviced, and you will find the retention value of the second hand golf is much higher than if you were to buy a new polo.
You will never get a straight answer from a salesman on where they came from. Even if they were Hertz they'd be registered through a third party company as Hertz know their name on the log book will affect the value. They'll give a wooly answer about 'ex management' cars, ex company cars, ex lease cars, ex VW cars.
I think you would just have to work on the premise they are ex hire cars and decide if they represent value for money or not.0 -
The ones I was looking at were less than a year old.
New Golf model 1.4 S 5dr.
around 15,000 mileage and list price of around £12,000
LMAO an annual mileage of 15k is far from low, the norm is around the 10k mark, low mileage would be half that. If the car was 3 years old with 15k on the clock you could say its low mileage.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
I'd agree and if the OP has got cash to spend and no trade-in then they could do worse than to get down to the auctions and pick one up for themselves, cutting out the middleman.
+1
If all the dealers are selling them, effectively as 'white goods', i'd just buy the cheapest one nationally, knowing it could be serviced by the local dealer anyway.
Heres one for under £10K from a main dealer...

Mind you, i'm a BIG advocate of diesels, but it would be seriously had to justify over £4000 more for the same year and model of diesel...
Cheapest on autotrader....

If you want to see the cream of Motability cars then get yourself down to Car Giant in Scrubs Lane, London. They seem to buy every Motability car that no other dealer wants and you'll be guaranteed that the Motability car will have a "defect highlight" sticker on it.The man without a signature.0
