Would the Sky+ box still work?

I am clearing out my wardrobe and found my Sky+ box. It hasn't been used since Aug 2007 after spilting up with my ex and moved back with my parents. The box was installed June 2006.
My question what are the chances are that the box still works? If it does, I will offer it to any FB mates or colleagues if their Sky+ has died and refuse to pay £65 for an engineer.

The software will be out of date. If you have a satellite connection, hook it up and allow to update either of its own volition or by a forced s/w upgrade. Should be fine, unless any of the capacitors have died!RIP independent MSE.

i was given an old sky box that had not been used for 4 years and that worked when I plugged it in, I updated the software and it's fine.0
