why do people pay over the odds??????

i've noticed quite a few times that people seem to choose to pay a lot more for items which they could buy cheaper from an online store!!!

for example....

i was looking for a cd,(a recent release) i found one on ebay i wanted, av been watching it for the last 7 days...

in the meantime i though i'd just check hmv and so on.....found it for 8.99 delivered...

i have just checked the one on ebay and it is up to £9.50 with nearly 2 days left, 11 bids, and £2.01 p+p

is it me? or are people really sooooo stoooooopid????????

Sounds like the guy on the ebay forums recently who complained that his dvd purchases arrived in play.com packaging! :rotfl:

i bet the winner will not pay up, some people bid just for something to do or the seller has got someone to bid on his item to bump up the price

I think the winner probably will pay. I've sold DVD's a while ago for about £14 with £2p&p whenever you could buy them from an online shop for around £10 with free postage. Some people are jst lazy and don't bother looking anywhere else and some automatically think that because it is on ebay it must be cheaper.

It's great isn't it! I used to spend my time trying to be cheapest...but it doesn't really matter!!
  • ill be honest, this is why ive never understood the attraction of ebay. I find everything I need at nice prices through online stores, there's no hassle, no risk of loss, you are fully protected by the distance selling act, peeps like cd-wow just send the cd out again no questions asked, its quick and easy, etc.

Ebay seems good for offloading some junk, or perhaps for looking for something nolonger for sale. Other than that I really dont get it.

I always tend to treat ebay like a car boot sale - if I wouldn't buy it at a car boot sale I wouldn't buy it on ebay.

Mind you, it has worked the other way as well. I was after a book (I'd been credited by the author but lost my copy) and Amazon said it was out of print although there was one second hand copy of this 'hard to get item' (their words not mine) available at £69 (it was £10 when it came out). Did an ebay search and found one for sale, was the only bidder and got it for £4.99 & £2 P&p.

I didn't want to trapise all the way to Brent Cross to buy some Chanel nail polish so I thought I'd look on Ebay.
I was shocked how much they go for - not cheaper at all.
Looks like I'll have to buy it the old fashioned way!!
Ebay is not necessarily the cheapest channel.

what is even wierd is when ppl continue bidding on an auction item when they can easily purchase the same item on a bin at a lower price.

I guess it all boils down to most ppl are too lazy to search the internet or even other listings on ebay and tend to stick with what they are used it.

And another thing what drives me mad from a buying point of view is.......WHY OH WHY do people bid on the very first day of auction???????

do they not realise it will bump the price up, and its not always the newbies that do it!!!!

but obviously I dont mind that if i'm selling!! Hee Hee!!! ;)
