how to find a cheap dog sitter for a week?

Ask your vet practice if they know of anyone who 'home boards' single dogs. Having strangers, or people you know slightly, living in your house for a week throws up problems with insurance, damage etc..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

I have 4 cats and have used www.housecarers.com several times. I can really recommend this site....the range of people is amazing! I have a small house on the outskirts of London and had no problem taking my pick from suitable sitters....Sitters registered range from your average young Aussie couple to retired airline pilots or ex vet nurses. With your location I am sure you will be inundated! Post a wanted ad and sit back and wait. Oh and do fill us all in.
It is a bit of a leap of faith...but this system of house swop/sit is well established in OZ. My last sitter ( 3 stays ) was a 55 year old Australian woman, divorced, kids flown nest....decided she wanted to see Europe so worked in UK as an agency nurse/carer and it was far nicer for her to stay in a home rather than a hostel.
You have not said when you are going away....I spent today with a good friend who would be interested I am sure ( family, small holding with 16 laying hens! )0 -
I wouldnt board your dog with your vet. We did that years back with our 15 year old girl, paying over the odds and thinking she would have a brilliant time. Basically we discovered she was caged nearly 24/7 and so depressed that they had to give her jabs to cheer her up
When we picked her up we were horrified, she even had poo caked on her tail. She died 3 weeks later and we regretted letting her stay there ever since. Heart breaking.

I am too! If you are on my edge I can always help. On the west (near New Mills) if that helps? But maybe it would suit someone who doesn't live there instead? Your dog could always come to my house, but not sure how he/she would like the cats!0 -

there are people out there who will do this - i believe there is an internet site called housesitter but its up to you to check references.0 -
Can I suggest you try asking on https://www.itsaspringthing.com lots of springer owners there and you may well find someone who is close to you who can either help out or point you in the right direction. They are a lovely bunch of people.Piglet

Hi Art
When i adopted my dog from Guidedogs i was told that he isn't happy in kennels. It's not usually a problem as often my son is able to look after him if i'm away. I do occasionally use a local dog walker if i'm out for the day whom Khade absolutely loves. He also offers home boarding (providing the dog gets on with his own dogs).
I boarded Khade with him last autumn for 5 days while I was away & Khade absolutely loved it. He lived in his home with his dogs, slept in his own bed & went out on the van for his walks with the other dogs. I supplied his food & the cost was £18 per day, so very affordable.
My dog had a wonderful time & i didn't have to worry about him! It helped that Khade already knew him...so well worth investing in a couple of walks first if you decide to try a similar service...
Good luck...hope you find something that works & enjoy your holidays!

I use Blackpool Pet Sitters, they are part of the UK pet sitters franchise, so there's likely to be one near you.
only charge £17 a day for 1 dog, I have 2 and she only charges me £20 a day, also have 3 cats and a hamster to feed when we go away this time (mum did it last time) and she's only charging £30 for 5 days.0 -
im sure asking around someone will know a friend who is willing, i do this quite regulary for people, i dont work in any of the school holidays and usually cant afford a holiday abroad with hubby and the kids so if its in a nice area we take it on as our holiday and dont charge, my children love animals and really miss thier dogs who passed away but as we both work full time now we cant take on anymore dogs, we have the cats but my inlaws live next door and look after them when we are away. let us know how you get on.xnow proud mum to 3 handsome boys :j latest one born 10/10/11:j0
