Done my first shop of the month this morning, mostly storecupboard stuff. Was going to use up the veg in the fridge as they were looking a bit pathetic, for fajitas. So I bought tortilla's & dip etc. But I decided to make a huge pot of pasta sauce with it instead. So in went 3 tins toms, some pesto I also found lurking in the back of the fridge, 3 chillis!! pack mushrooms, an onion & 2 peppers. Put in some oregano that is prob also past it sell by date, got it all cooking away at the mo. I'll freeze it in small portions so I can use it on one of those " I can't be bothered cooking" nights.

This forum has taught me that it doesn't matter if you think you can't cook, most people just make it up as they go along anyway, and it all tastes good in the end!

I was so pleased with how I did on this challenge in September and October. November got off to a reasonably good start, and then there was a family crisis that has kept me fully occupied for the last couple of months. But I'm back on the wagon for February. :)

I need to up my weekly spend because I've got more people in the house for more of the week than I used to, so please put me down for £60 pw and £40 for extras (like eating out or having people round). So could you put me down for £240 please Mrs M? I'm having an extra target of keeping my spending diary up to date for the whole month.

Ooops! I forgot to add the extras into the total. 4*£60 + £40 isn't £240, is it? :o
Please could you amend my total to £280, Mrs M?

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

First no spend day yesterday but added just over £20 to total today. A quick trip around Co-op and Lidl just picking up what I couldn't get from Asda last Friday. Don't need anything else now this week.

I have meal planned for this week including breakfasts and lunches for the first time. Don't know why I didn't do this before. I found I wasn't always sticking to the planned evening meal because I wasn't hungry after work. Then last week it hit me that a good lunch means I don't always want an evening meal :doh:why didn't I realise earlier ?? So now I'm going to take lunch every day so I don't buy whatever the work's restaurant has on and I can plan evening meals to fit what I have for lunch. Seems so simple I don't understand why I couldn't see it before.........Should save me some cash too.

Special good luck to Ragz who must be eagerly waiting for baby to make an appearance. I wasn't late with any of mine but I've had friends who were and said those days after your due date seem to drag forever. Hope you aren't waiting too much longer :grinheart

Best of luck for the month everyone, K

Having lost my way in January I will try again in Feb. Please put me down for £300 - I have an extra one to feed this month.
  • Did quite a big shop yesterday at Mr T's, Farm Foods & the local market. I bought 4 banans at Mr's T's for either 54p or 64p (can't remember) but then also bought 2 bags of bananas which equated to 28 bananas for £1 in the local market as they were packing up for the day! I know that you can apparently freeze bananas but having never done this before, I don't know if you freeze them with the skin on or off! Also can you just eat them as normal after they have defrosted or are they then only good for banana cake etc?
Also got 2 huge bags of tomatoes for a pound at the market. I'm guessing that they can't be frozen or can they? If not, better make some tomato soup with them soon.
Was quite pleased with what I got yesterday all in all, cos although I didn't need some of it just yet, nearly every thing I got was things that I do usually use & were on offer & can be put away.

Had lovely lunch out today for my birthday & next week have a family meal out for SS's 18th birthday so that is 2 less meals to do although obviously they will definitely cost more money from another budget.

Hi everyone, I've decided to get back on track this year so would like to join the challenge! I have decided to go with £250 for February (this will include 4 extra visitors for 3 nights later in the month).

Looking forward to reading all your tips for inspiration :D

We ate pheasant for lunch with leftover mash potatoes from the freezer (really good) and the remains of a bag of frozen veg, and leftover gravy. Bit of a weird conconction in some ways, but at least there's a bit more space in the freezer and I can stop putting that bird on the menu plan week after week!
