You could always try to reduce your outgoings on line rental by switching from BT's £11.54 rate.

In fact, since this gives you a discount on your broadband you can save more than you would without a phone line at all; VM's cheapest broadband without line rental would be £225 in the first year, Plusnet value with plusnet line rental would be £213.87.

(I worked this out here - http://www.chooseisp.co.uk/compare/broadband-phone/cheapest.asp - by the way, don't know all the broadband prices off the top of my head!) Hope this helps :)

If you live in a cable area then you don't need a phoneline as cable broadband comes through a co-ax cable like the TV and not over a phone cable. I was landline free for over 3 years and used cable broadband and VoIP for calls. Only have landline now due to cable offering me a retentions deal that was actually cheaper with a landline included.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!
(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)

I've been on Cable for years - and up until recently it's ALWAYS been cheaper to have phone + broadband rather than just broadband

Now it's £3.50 a month more to have phone plus broadband as compared to just broadband on a base package

It's not always more for phone + broadband - it can be the same price or even cheaper. See my working out above.
