I am wondering if any of you wonderful techie folk knows...do I need a home telephone landline to use broadband?
I am looking at ways of cutting back and rarely use the house phone so I would love to get rid...but as a family we use the internet nearly 24/7 and have three pc's/lappys set upto on a router & modem system.
So I don't think a dongle thingy would suffice.
Any advice?
Thank you in advance Bam x x

Hi
I have Virgin Media broadband without a phone line.Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.0 -
So the answer is: yes, you need either a VM cable service, or your existing BT ADSL line.
How else do you think you can receive the broadband signal?
All you can do is minimise your line rental (i.e. if BT, make sure you are on whole bill monthly DD and paper free billing). No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
unfortunately yes, if you didn't BT would be very short on cash and I'd have sold my shares in that bloated dinosaur months ago....0

You can still have broadband if you dont have incoming or outgoing calls etc. As long as u have a dial tone
. And bt has to give you one now for 999 calls unless they completely disconnect it from the exchange.

But you still have to pay line rental! And all BT line rental packages have some element of inclusive calls, so what would be the point of that?No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thank you folks. x x
So I can't get rid of the phone...poo! Never mind...better start looking at selling the O/Hs prized motorbike to save cash.0 -

I thought virgin would provise broadband with out a phone if you live in an area that has been cabled. BT have other ways of making money and would still make a profit if they hived of the local network whose network do you think all those calls and broadband lines go through.0 -
