The main boilers I would fit would be a bosch or a valiant although many people say the viessmann is a good boilerX British Gas engineer and X BG sales adviser.

Its very strange that neither checked the incoming pressure its not as though its difficult.
As regards the boiler selection 24 kW may be insufficient for a 14 rad installation but that will depend on the whole house heat requirement calculation taking losses into account for your particular house.Your installer should be able to do this for you to verify.
As you seem to like WB go HERE and enter the details and the calculator will give you the recommended boiler for your number of bedrooms and bathroom facilities. This is a bit of a one-size fits all calculator so is no more than a guide and the whole house calculation is recommended.
Better to be slightly oversized than undersized as a higher top end means a faster warm up and a modulating boiler that modulates down low will be efficient (unlike an oversized non-modulating boiler which will be inefficient). An integral weather compensator is recommended.

Hi,
I am thinking on the lines of a combi (been looking into it for ages), i have got so much info from these forums i am so confused! Too much knowledge is dangerous for me
and doing my hubbys little brain in, he is leaving it all to me but have gone too far on the post mortem me thinks....
Right, i had my water tested and it was 3.1 bar and 10/11 lts pm from bath tap (bungalow 3 beds 1 bath) Conventional boiler in garage at moment. When running the bathwater and retesting the other thingmy off of the garden tap the bar pressure didnt drop hardly anything and i was told that was good.
So, i was looking at a Vaillant ecotec plus 831 or maybe WB, but am i better off going for say a 35kw for the DHW side of things, this is the bit i do not understand too well. I think my heating load is around 18kw according to BG when they came. My gas feed from the meter is 22 ml pipe and i think where it connects to my existing boiler shrinks to 15ml feed. Am i making any sense?
I dont want to make the wrong combi boiler choice and regret it later. Is my gas feed of 22 ml pipe enough for a 35kw if this would be a better choice as i dont want a bigger gas supply put in cos it would be exposed back to the meter outside.
Many Thanks

true
i wonder why they did not check as they have both good names
you have asked for a heat only boiler (according to your quote) , thats why no one checked the flow rate of mains cold or its pressure . because they do not need to as it does work on pressure or flow rateArf :think:0 -

The water pressure needs to be checked at 1bar .then see what the flow is guess with the 3.1bar pressure your flow is going to be very high so it would seem that you could easily have a 35kw .but the installer needs to check itX British Gas engineer and X BG sales adviser.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply, its just so hard getting someone to advise correctly. I dont want to waste plumbers time, but i need to know all the facts before spending over £1k on a boiler, so naturally i want to get it right. I didnt want a boiler that was way to big and cost more to run, and again, no point in getting one that gives too big a flow if the pressure isnt there anyway(is that right?) A friend of the family said to me a while back that i should go for a 35kw if i could cos the hot water would get to my taps quicker, but thats something that i didnt understand really. My boiler is is the garage of my bungalow and the kitchen and bathroom are located at the other side, and because of doing away with the gravity fed system want to make sure. I am a right pain, but just want to make the correct purchase. So far i know i want a combi, magnaclean, powerflush, decent trv's, and a NEAT plumber (LOL!) i am sooo fussy...thats why hubby is leaving it all to me, heheheee.....

Hi
Is there any way you could fit the combi nearer to the kitchen and bathroom to reduce waiting time for hot water.(and save gas and water)

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. That would be impossible as my gas meter is in the bungalow wall in front of the garage, the 22 ml gas pipe runs in my house wall to the garage and the airing cupboard backs onto the garage wall from the 2nd bedroom with the hw cylinder at present. The only other option is to fit in the loft above the airing cupboard but i just dont fancy the boiler being there for safety and noise reasons in the winter. This would only bring it about 10 or 11 ft nearer than the boilier already is on the external garage wall. I thought about getting a heat only boilder and replacing the tank but then i am not freeing up any valuable space and the last heating engineer that came told me these new modern boilers are not designed for gravity fed hw systems and that i would be looking at something like £1k for a stainless steel tank, which is way over our budget. My present cylinder is old 1986 when the bungalow was built, but would this be a more cost effective solution in the long run? Can i keep a gravity fed system with a heat only condending boiler? Would this be better and cheaper for me to run? I am so confused by the whole process as everybody is telling me different. So far i did narrow it down to Vaillant, Viessmann, WB and Rehema (although i dont know anyone here that has heard of or fitted Rehema boilers)
I wish i could wave a magic wand...:)
