Whenever a builder questions us about using plastic.....
    We inform them.....

Real plumbers wont lower themself to install plastic :rotfl:
No more than a few eons ago when real plumbers wouldn't lower themselves to install copper either. :D

    Cheers

My boss wont touch it either....

But on a plus side for copper, twice since the start of the year I have been to two different properties in the countryside where a mouse has chewed through the lagging and into the plastic pipework causing it to leak.

Plastic might be easier to install and faster to instal but I know what I would rather have in my house :D
Yes, mice can be a problem with plastic. They will often chew through telecoms cables too. But I think plastic has its uses, especially when threading it through joists because you can minimise on the amount of joins.

Have a look at my earlier post regarding the earthing issue I mentioned. I'd be interested to hear your take on that.

One point to think about though is that if you use plastic as it enters the house, then say you put an electric shower in the bathroom, maybe using a copper spur and you would then normally put an earth strap on it, wouldn't you? I just wonder about the fact that as part of the pipework serving the shower would be plastic, how effective/legal the earth strap would be?
If the bathroom is wired to the 17th Edition there is no need for supplementary equipotential bonding.

Isn't the main issue with plastic that it's watertight only becuase it has a rubber seal. However over time rubber degrades (even quicker where the pipe is constantly warming up and cooling down) so it's only a matter of time before you will have a leak. Correctly soldered copper will not leak.

When you connect copper pipe to a tap in your bathroom you would use a washer. They too can degrade with time like anything else. I think that the manufacturers of plastic products will have tested them to the endth degree.

I can't tell you how many joints I've looked at under the floorboards of my house and found that the flux hadn't been wiped off of them after the joints had been made. This is extremely corrosive and this is probably the biggest cause of leaks at joints.

I have found end feed joints on low pressure systems where the ONLY thing holding them together was the flux. Joints had not been soldered at all. In one case it had been like that probably for 10 years or so. Goodness knows how it had held together but it had.
