You say that the jugs got stuck before many times, this is probably because its just a tad too big for that microwave, it looks a bit too big from the pics too. I would be blaming myself if this happened to me to be honest. The jug would have been fine if it didn't get stuck against the side of the microwave (not the jugs fault) and the microwave would have been fine if it didn't have an oversized jug stuck to the side of it ;) That's what happened at the end of the day. They might cover it under the 5 year warranty but if you are honest and tell them how it came to be like that then I don't think they would, as it would count as improper use.

The jug's not too big for the microwave, you can't even see the size of the microwave in my pics! It's gotten stuck before, I didn't say many times, when it got stuck before it was because the turntable had come slightly off it's 'tracks'. Something like that must have happened again, but I still find it shocking that a 'microwave safe' glass jug can just melt in the microwave because it gets stuck in exactly the wrong spot.

sorry to seem pedantic but as far as im aware magnetron's are used in microwaves not klystron's as they are an unnecessary upgrade (more expensive due to being able to alter amplitude, frequency etc)?
    :o

I may be wrong though and things may have changed but i just understood that klystrons were not actually used in microwaves.
My mistake I knew they were magnetrons really. Bit embarrassing as I have worked on radars for 30 years (although the last one I worked on did use klystrons as the output valve)

Given glass needs a temperature of at least 500C to melt (often up to 1650C), then that was one hot spot.

Not quite the same thing, but the BBC did a sciencey thing on melting glass in a microwave:

Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
  • lol sorry to be jovial but im so glad im not the only one with a microwave that needs cleaning

Lol i was more curious than anything. Its not common for people to know what a klystron is so i thought that maybe they could be used in microwaves. O well haha. And i dont know a thing about radars apart from the principle of how they work and they use a microwave signal. You could have just blagged it and said they are used and i would have believed you lol.

They could be used but as you say they need more electronics to achieve it. Magnetrons are simple, hit them with a few kV and the oscillate.
