  • You just reminded me. I know someone who had an accident, which her husband had something to do with. It was just a trip and fall case, I always assumed they were drunk at the time. lol Anyway, her mother called one of those solicitors who called her to sue.... Her husband. lol
  • It's the ambulance chasing solicitors that are to blame for this americanised blame culture.
There is a place for genuine situations as it's usually a claim that will only make some companies improve their workplace / safety etc.
I believe legislation is going to change before too much longer that will make it a lot more painful for claimants and their solicitors who are taking the 'mick'
some of these solicitors are absolute scum, I despise them with a hatred almost on a par with !!!!!philes. To clarify I'm not accusing them of being !!!!!philes, just indicating that I hold them on the same social level.
I don't know about you but I feel a lot better now :D

edit: forgot to mention, if you are an ambulance chaser, do the world a favour and kill yourself
    Happy easter everyone ;)

    Agree completely!
A "friend" of mine is suing 3 people including her secondary school which she left nearly 10 years ago, all for minor accidents, and wonders why shes never invited to my house or offered a lift home...

She'll lose against the school as accidents have to be claimed within so many years.

Totally agree with you dampdaveski, the other problem is the people contacting this law firms are lead to beleive that the person they are suing wont lose out as its all covered by insurance, and they pay out, victimless crime springs to mind.
The bigger picture though effects everyone who requires any sort of insurance and most insurers are all tied in with each other and they all have to keep the progit margins high, which in turn means higher premiums for everyone.

THe other problem is many years ago a lot of people would have just paid someone a goodwill gesture if they had an accident and were seriously hurt, but now its a case of "Sue me".
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.

as someone who used to work for ambulance chasers - I know the difference between a genuine and false claim. dont jump all over me please - I only worked for them for six months! and sued them at employment tribunal and won my case!
ok faith - my take is someone asked if your mum had had an accident in last two years - she said yes in pub car park - they asked if she had been drinking she replied no - was there an injury - yes a dislocated shoulder - hospital xrays etc? reply yes?
faith - to get a solicitor to take this on - your mum would need witnesses both to testify she hadnt been drinking and also (and here it gets tricky) that the car park was in a bad state of repair and she was at risk by walking in it.
also - your mum would need her hospital records to show that it caused the injury and that what your mum said tallied with what she said to claim.
and the witnesses would need to agree.
and the pub didnt put up a notice that people using the car park did so at their own risk
sounds to me as if your mum was approached by canvassers who didnt really care if she has a good case (she hasnt in my opinion), but are aiming to get their target of possible cases.
I may be wrong - but this is how they work - take iffy cases and make the victim believe they are due compensation.

I have to add - the genuine cases i found - where people didnt realise they could claim were about one in five to the ones which were submitted to my boss. and about one in three were actually taken on by solicitors! I am proud of the ones which were genuine - but from what i gathered while working for them - the solicitors usually sorted out genuine from fake.
  • last year i had an accident at work, nothing major, (or unusual as i am majorly accident prone :D ) i was in the office and moved something out of the way which was propping up a ladder, the ladder fell down and i happened to look up at the same time,,,
wammo! ladder to the face! it broke my front tooth, my boss drove me to the dentist (and i didnt loose any wages for going) our H+S rep made sure i was re-imbursed for my dentist fee's and if i get any further problems with that tooth then they will pay for the work needed (although i doubt if i will ever ask them to)
the first thing my mum said is

    ''you should sue!!''

why on earth would i sue?? they paid for my treatment, i didnt loose any pay, it makes me laugh when people spout on about compensation!

incidently, i think ladders are conspiring against me, a few months before christmas DH left a set of ladders in the hallway, i managed to stub my toe going past. after visiting A+E i found i had actually broke it!, i would sue him but i already spend all his money anyway lol!
Can you see the mountains through the fog?
