This is purely a rant!!!
My mum emailed me and asked for my friends contact details. Curious, I phoned her to ask why. Turns out she is trying to sue my old local pub because she tripped in their carpark nearly 2years ago and dislocated her shoulder, and my friend is the only 'witness' she knows (I was inside, as was my dad and various others). Mum was sober (teetotal) BUT is terrible at never picking her feet up so trips often, and the shoulder dislocated because of an old work injury that resulted in a bone being removed some years ago.
I am fuming!!! What happened was a genuine accident, has caused no long term problems (no worse than they were before anyway:cool:) and did not resultin a loss of income as she has not worked in donkeys years. Why can't people accept that sometimes accidents just happen, and not always try to gain financially?????
Rant over;)

Amen. Couldn't agree with you more :T0

So did you refuse to give her the details then?Always ask ACAS0

I haven't given her the details, no. I told her I wasn't happy with her wanting to sue (much as in my post above), then the conversation moved on and didn't come back to it. I am hoping to disuade her from doing this anyway, and would like to keep my friend out of it as both she and I had a very good relationship with the pub landlord, which I would hate to upset in anyway (it was the only time mum ever visited the pub).0

Counter-sue her for the stress and emotional trauma you are being put through by her request.
Then undertake regressive hypnosis and really take her to the cleaners.0 -

I agree with all the posts. This is the problem though people get tempted by all these adverts of people claiming thousands for a trip or fall and how simple it all looks. Had the landlord been negligent then maybe she would have a case, i.e he went out and pushed her over, but a simple fall that didn't result in her being out of pocket is a p1ss take.
No offence but I suspect if she did go ahead and won she would be one of the first to complain when her home insurance premium goes up, as all these claims have to be recovered by the insurers in lots of other ways and whilst she may get a quick financial gain everyone else pays the price.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
I'm not sure what insurances they have, possibly only contents (rent house, no car) but yes, she would be the one to moan if it went up! Also she just doesn't get the idea that the landlord is someone I consider a friend! I may well be moving back later tis year and it will be my olcal again, where my friends still go now. Would she sue her own friend??? I really don't know! I imagine my dad feels similarly to me, he is very much a 'don't make a fuss' person.0

faith , does your mum understand the implications of insurance fraud ?
when she loses (which she will ) all her insurances and you dads will be cancelled (even life policies )
and she will find herself in court. you need to ensure she fully understands this and if you are linked them yours could be cancelled toowe all have bad days , some more than others ..................0 -
diggerman123 - As far as I know claiming for something and not been paid out is not insurance fraud. As long as she doesn't lie at any point through the process nothing will happen to her except she may lose.If you find you are drinking too much give this number a call. 0845 769 75550

the insurance company would investigate and can "flag up " anyone that loses a claim and anyone associated to them. if someone loses then they will be "significant risk " in my opinion as their claim was invalid. AND daughter has already said that it was a genuine accident.
and medical records would soon stop this charadewe all have bad days , some more than others ..................0
